InactiveBummer man. Hope you heal well and soon!
Oh Ya, Don’t try to tape the button down on your Morphine pump, it gets the nurses a little rattled.
Plug, chicks dig scars!
Rick

ParticipantThat’s why I always wear a helmet boarding. If you’re going to get big air you might want to fall on something that won’t break or hurt 8)
Heal up and we’ll see you soon. Sorry to hear that.
Oh by the way, I’ll be hitting the jumps and half pipe myself. With a better result but only if there’s new snow… 😆January 19, 2007 at 8:11 pm #56281Garrick Mitchell

That’s “humerus,” but I doubt you thought it was funny at the time. 😯
At age 35, I’m pretty conservative on the slopes and my hard-core bike racing days are behind me… So what’s next? Karting, of course! :loony:
Hope your recovery goes smoothly…

ParticipantWhen I was 35 and racing Moto X I had a high speed crash and shattered my tibia and blew my knee out. After reconstructive knee surgery and not walking for a year , I decided to race something less destructive on the human body. You will heal. Good luck. Oh yeah , I spent 9 days in the Hospital :ambulance

Call me Steve Austin..I have been rebuilt better than before. I now have two titanium plates and 12 screws in my upper arm thanks to some poor decision making.
I dropped my 5 yr old off at ski school at 10am, by 1130 am I was screaming in pain at the bottom of a kicker in the terrain park. Too much speed + bad line choice on the ramp sent me WAY too high, i swear i hit a part of the ramp meant to send the rider/skier inverted. I landed with my left arm behind me and I absolutely smashed it. I saw the xray and my arm was about 1.5 inches shorter than normal. The humiris (sp?) bone snapped above the elbow and displaced iself to a new location well below the elbow from the impact. It did not break the skin, but it sure looked spectacular once i got my gear off.
It took 3 hours of surgery to repair it and I’m looking forward to a spectacular scar. ouch. I am already moving the joint in a hinged arm brace and am able to adjust the range of motion. I feel like a fricking robot.
One would think that at age 35 I would have more common sense than to go hit the park with the teenagers. Apparently not. There wasnt any new snow…why shouldn’t i go work on my air? My line of thinking will be different next time.
I have no idea on the time needed for the recuperation. I should be good to go for spring time but my ski season is over.
Looking forward to a couch-bound-drug-hazed weekend.
Deason
Dude…that is soooo horrible man. I was looking forward to maybe riding with ya this year. Don’t tell me you went for one of the “Wu-Tang” hits up at Breckenridge….. :loony:

InactiveKirk,
Sorry to hear about your accident. Even though it didn’t turn out to well for you, at least you were out there doing something fun!
I’m recoverying from ankle surgery, six week in crutches with no weight. I’m in my seventh week of recovery, so I’m on the upside. As bad as your injury sounds, hopefully you’ll mend quickly and get out with the rest of us when the snow melts.
Take it easy, get used to your couch! Hope you have Tivo!
Take care,
Tony

ParticipantThanks, everyone, for the kind words. I am pleased to read the other “i was 35 when I..” stories. It makes me feel like less of an idiot to know I am not a complete moron for even riding the park. There ARE others out there that have similair mental problems at my age.
Charlie..I was at Loveland on one of their big kickers when I crashed. I have skied the super-park at Breck several times with no problems, just giant straight-airs, no tricks. And this is what I was attempting on MLK day..just a straight-air..things just got a little too huge.
Lesson learned: Stick to small(er) jumps on natural terrain only in big pow days. Hard snow sucks.

InactiveHey Kirk,
Hows it going? Getting tired of sitting around I imagine. At least (for you) the weather has been lees than ideal, which certainly makes it a little easier chillin at the house. Hopefully you’ll be aggressive in your therapy and come back better than ever. And don’t quit doing adventurous acts of fun yet, you still got some years left in ya!
Rick

ParticipantNope, not sitting around at all. I went to work on monday, I can type more easily now and I can wear a headset while on the phone at work. I saw the doc yesterday and my range of motion is better than he expected. I go back in on monday to get the staples yanked (around 20 or 25 stitching up the back of my arm) I am NOT looking forward to that slow torture.
I am not worried about skiing anymore this year but I DO want to see some warm weather so we can all hit the track.

ParticipantHey Kirk, glad to hear your going to live. You will need to stay away from Jansen this season. As you can see by the attached photo, he has found another way around the track.
This is why Rick has a sore neck also. Some guys just need to punk others to get to the top.See you at the races. 😉

ParticipantWell, you are not alone in the recovery room…..
Last December 22 trying to get my family out after two heavy snowy days, my SUV got stocked in the snow and while I was trying to get the snow clear from under it, lost my balance an fell, over stretching my left arm? causing a 2nd degree dislocation to my shoulder?. Needless to say with all of the snow and the messy roads, it took me 1 hour to get to the E.R and another 2 hours for the Doctors at the E.R put the shoulder back in place as they were slammed ? :ambulance (This is my wife driving me to the ER I was doing the screaming to make it sound like a real ambulance)Get well Kirk… would you be attending the meeting?
Do you need a ride? Let me know.January 27, 2007 at 4:19 am #56292Anonymous
InactiveMaybe we should have the “Gimp 500” Saturday at Brads. Whats going on with all the healing racers out there? We’ll all get better and come back stronger than ever!
January 27, 2007 at 6:29 am #56293Kirk Deason
ParticipantHoly Crap Eduardo! I hope you are recovering quickly. I can empathize (sp?) with the screaming, as I did some of my own. I think I will be at the THE MEETING tomorrow. My buddy can watch my daughter for me, I’m looking forward to seeing one of the new Vampire motors at Brad’s shop. Kinda like that kid staring at the puppy in the window, but I digress.
Gimp’s Up!
OK I’ll see you guys at IMI tomorrow.
Kirk
