InactiveThe reason is because Mike Jansen can’t make weight 😈
It would have been easier last year if we used normal Tag weights which allows the guys that travel to national races the opportunity to run at those weights. If the turnout is as expected for Tag this year, then split the classes into Tag Int’l and Tag Int’l Heavy (Not Tag Masters). Tag Int’l Heavy adds 30 pounds to the standard Tag weights and nobody should have a problem running at those weights. Run the classes together to have a large field and shorter track time and be sure to stage the karts in their division. Stagger the starts by a 1/4 lap with the faster groups, whether thats Jr., Int’l or Int’l Heavy but DON’T mix the classes together based upon qualifying times. That created alot of frustration last year since we weren’t racing for points against the Jr’s. This concept also gives you the ability to add another class sponsor – more money.

ParticipantDoug, I sure don’t know all the TAG drivers but all of the ones over here in to hang out at Kripsy Kreme for a couple months. They all are bolting on a ton of weight, what is everyone over there doing?

Thats the only thing us light guys can do. I’m hoping for a large turnout so we can split the group.

InactiveWell it does not look like the weights are going to change to meet the Tag USA and SKUSA rules any time soon, and combining the classes so you are competing againt people in a different class is not for us. so I am affraid we will have to pass on the CSC series this year. We will be club racing and may take a shot at the Rotax series this year at GMS. Good luck to you all this year and be safe. 😉

InactiveDarn, I thought MG yellow tires WERE going to be allowed….
Two Junior 1 newbie questions:
First, at the meeting cams for Animals were not discussed, but the only rule change I heard for the Animals from last year to this year is that we CAN now re-jet the carb. I don’t know enough about the Animals yet, but I have been told the stock cam can wear out pretty fast versus a ground cam. Anyone have any thoughts on this??
Second, the was no discussion on types of clutches allowed for either the Animal or Flathead at the meeting, and last year I am sure I saw Animals and flatheads running disc type clutches. Now, doesn’t WKA Tech Manual say only 2 or 3 centrifugal clutches allowed?? So is this gonna be another exception??
thanks,

ParticipantIt was my understanding that the TAGUSA has more information coming out in the next week or so, and that is when all of this is going to be set. You can expect all of the TAG weights to be adjusted. I will keep you posted, but if anyone sees anything new, or if I am missing something please let me know. Talking to Brad, this is what I understood.

no, that was changed because the yellows were too good!

WKA rules allow the jetting anyway, and that is what we are going by. the only exception to WKA is allowing the billet rod for the Stock Briggs on methanol.

This is a good point, and I think this exception should have been specified, because I believe that there has always been an open clutch rule in the past. I will check on this and clarify, but everyone would have to change what they are running if we did not keep that exception. I am sure there are some other things like this that we are forgetting, and we need to get them in writing as well.
thanks,

Inactivewhy don’t we just allow the MG yellows?
they are the cheaper tire.
they are a better tire.
they last longer( heat cycles).
I bet dealers can have a larger profit margin on them.makes sense to me, but what do I know?
Last year in the senior class, at least 3/4 of us were on MG’s, but the championship went to Jack on YHCs.February 12, 2004 at 3:28 pm #46059stacey cook
ParticipantGraeme you have my vote. Tires are the worst thing for a dealer. There is very little profit if any in tire sales but you have to stock them. If all organizations had an open tire rule maybe tire prices would come down.

ParticipantI want to throw in my 2 cents worth and say that i am not hanging out at the krispy kreme!
I like the +20 TAG rule since it gives us naturally heavy and lean guys a chance to race against a larger and balanced field. I am eating salads without dressing and tuna and unless i cut off a leg I just ain’t making 365 . My wife says I smell like a fish (don’t go there)
As for the tires, I’ve raced yellows @ Action and YHC’s everywhere else and i find that they are pretty balanced but the yellows do NOT last as long in racing trim as the YHC’s. So, if i am at JB’s I’ll pick up yellows and @ IMI YHC’s. Unless rules dictate otherwise. Also, I do like the staggered start as suggested. I don’t need someone in Jr class making a last lap banzai move (and it will happen) on me only to realize after we’re both off the track that the pass wasn’t producing a result in the standings.
That’s my 2 cents, I’d like to hear yours…

InactiveHi Angie,
Any status on the “official? rules? Or are the specific class exemptions discussed at the meeting the only exceptions and from there we follow the WKA rulebook?thanks
donFebruary 18, 2004 at 11:33 pm #46065Angie MacEwen
ParticipantDon,
What was agreed on at the meeting is still the way it is. I am awaiting some final OKs on an updated version and then will post, and print the rules, “officially”. There will be specific section numbers and listed exceptions for some of the classes. But nothing will be a surprise, it is as it was agreed on that meeting. Soon!Mike, thanks for the kind words! I am trying.
On all of the tires and weights, I have yet to hear anything new from the track owners on this – I will be checking with them to get these things finalized.
