Colorado Sprint Championship Info/Schedule
January 20, 2004 (Englewood, CO) – The Colorado Sprint Championship (CSC) presented by Shockwave Karting recently announced its schedule for 2004. Like last year, the series will feature 7 races, two at each of the major tracks in Colorado and a grand finale at Steamboat Springs on a temporary circuit. The dates are:
April 4 – Action Karting at Bandimere
May 16 – Grand Junction Motor Speedway
June 13 – IMI
July 4 – Grand Junction Motor Speedway
August 8 – Action Karting at Bandimere
August 29 – IMI
September 11/12 – Steamboat Springs
The four venues offer a very different challenge for racers. The Bandimere track is a storied facility and home to the NHRA Mile High Nationals. It is more of a traditional track, narrow and very technical. That is not to say the owners have not been making improvements. Racers will find several improvements this year. Sections of the track will be either resurfaced or ground to improve the racing surface. A new kart shop has been built and the storage containers have been moved. The end result is a greatly improved track and paddock area.
Grand Junction Motor Speedway has been given a date on the SKUSA Pro Tour for May 21/23. The CSC is holding an event the weekend before to give those national teams a chance to sample the track under race conditions. Located adjacent to I-70, the track is only a short 5 minute drive from the many fine hotels and motels of Grand Junction. New this year is a kart shop/scoring tower complete with tech rooms and meeting rooms. The pit area has been expanded and improved.
IMI is located just north of Denver in Dacono, this track continues a rich tradition of great racing. As this track was one of the very first to be designed for shifter karts, it is long and wide to accommodate the speed of shifters. At just under 1 mile long, it continues to draw very large crowds for its club program and the CSC races held there should be the biggest events of the season. It continues to set the standard for karting in Colorado.
The finale at Steamboat Springs should be another magical event. In its third year, the Steamboat Springs GP has enjoyed phenomenal growth and this year will be the best version yet. With more sponsors and increased organization and support from the community, this event is quickly becoming the premier event of the season in the Rocky Mountain west. A temporary circuit in the lower parking lot of the ski resort, this event is located base of one of the finest ski resorts in the country and in the heart of Ski Town USA.
The CSC will feature 12 classes, from 125 Pro shifters to kid karts. The two adult 4 cycle classes will be combined into one class and there will be an S2 class added for 125 shifters. There will also be some minor adjustments to weight packages to help the competitiveness of some engine packages. We will be following SKUSA rules for 125 shifters and TaG karts and WKA rules for clutch karts. We will make some local modifications to the rules to account for the increased altitude.
