Okay, so Brad’s shop incident got me thinking of when I lived in LA…

What if someone broke into your house while you, your wife and kids were asleep. You have a gun in your house (unless you live in Boulder, there you’d have Tofu to throw at the perpatrators)…

Do you have a gun? Is it loaded? Would you be able to carry out the Clint law (Colorado’s go ahead and make my day law)? Just curious…

Let me say mine’s in a safe and ready to make someone’s day. I’d have NO problem pulling the trigger…. 13 times.

Rick, you wanted a good discussion. I think I just started it….

If me and my neighbors run fast enough we can wreck someones day, including ours.

While I wouldn’t disagree, I STRONGLY suggest not posting or writing about such things in a public forum or with emails.

The criminal attorneys can turn around any discussion of this type into “pre-meditation” and use it against the victim who was rightfully defending their home, property and family.

Colorado CURRENTLY has a good home protection law, but unfortunately unscrupulous lawyers can turn discussion of the law and preparedness against the law abiding citizen.

And once again law abiding citizens have to refrain from doing what is right in order to keep from being intimidated by scumbag attorneys. When will it stop!

One of the refreshing things about riding through South America was the fact that attorneys haven’t yet taken over down there. I think it is partly due to the fact that attorneys do not have a long life span there.

It is also a matter of sheer quantity The US has about a 100:1 ratio of lawyers per capita as compared to Japan. We are obsessed with litigation. Keep in mind that about 90% of Congress are lawyers and the law lobby contributes HEAVILY to campaigns. The overhead legal cost in the US is hurting our economic competitiveness.

But the issue here is that our First Ammendment right to free speech can get turned against us. I just wanted to warn people about this as I hope noone here has to defend themselves for defending themselves or their property.

An attorney can be a wonderful thing when you have a good one! The key to that is do your research before hiring one. If they don’t do the job you think they should FIRE them they work for you. Also a couple of comment to those that have a weapon and are prepared. Have you ever shot someone before? Do you practice close quarters combat? If you haven’t done either of those things be prepared to freeze under the pressure and possibly have your weapon used against you. If you still intend to defend yourself the best home defense weapon is a shotgun. You can shoot through walls etc.

Shotguns are great, but use smaller shot and do NOT shoot through walls. Shooting through a wall puts you at high risk of injuring someone or something that was not an intended target. It is a bad idea. In a self defense situation you will become stone deaf right away. You will not be able to hear a friend or someone coming to help you out from the other side of the wall.

I believe this thread has gone far afield from Karting and might be a good candidate for removal or moving.

“What if” your quick assessment to make someones day. Ended with the 13 holes in one of your loved ones? Just how much of a problem is it to be ready and waiting, while awakened from a deep sleep?
Would you feel safer if everyone in your house was prepaired to make someones day when they are awakened?
Being prepaired is one thing, yet too much anticipation and preperation could change the out come of, Good Morning Dear…….Bang-bang-bang-bang-bang-bang.
Is the “safe place” near your pillow?

    No apologies needed.
I learned how to handle a weapon properly at a young age. My family is from Law Enforcement (FBI)
Any weapon is only as good as the person trained to use it. And no it’s not near my pillow, I agree with your assesment in that.

I was violated twice in LA, both burgularies. Enough is enough. As I told the 17 year old who did the first one, “I’ll let you go this time but if I even see you in my yard or my neighbours, this is what you get.” From that point on he walked on the other side of the street (and he lived 2 doors down on my side). It’s called ACTIONS PRODUCE CONSEQUENCES. Something lacking when we coddle…

Freedom’s a great thing isn’t it. Learn to use it and realize it comes at a price.

    JJ, point taken…
