As many of you know or have experienced, registering for The Colorado Karter forums for the past couple years has been a frustrating experience at times.
One of the challenges with the current forum software is that the anti-spam countermeasures for user registrations are not very good. This will be fixed as the forum is upgraded, but for now, I have to manually approve all user registrations to prevent spambots from registering. Currently about 90% of new user registrations are automated spambots so selecting the real accounts from the fake ones takes some effort.
If you are registering for the forums for the first time, here are some tips to help make sure your registration is approved in a timely manner.
1) Be patient. I currently attempt to check and approve new registrations once daily. This happens mostly on weekdays and I am frequently too busy on weekends to approve new registrations. I also carry a full time job in addition to The Colorado Karter and W Speed so some weekdays I may not be able to approve registrations. After you register, it may take a few days for me to activate your account; please be patient. You will receive an email once your account is activated.
2) Use a real email address. If you register with something that sounds like a spambot like [email protected], I am going to delete your account outright. Most people have an email address with some variation of their real name, use that if possible. Additionally, if I have any questions about the validity of your registration, I may email you to confirm that you are a real person with an interest in Colorado karting.
3) Use a legit sounding username, ideally including a part of your real name. I am not requiring the use of your real name at this point, but the CO karting community is close-knit and thrives off real people making real connections. Using a part of your name in your username, especially if it jives with your email address, is more likely to get you approved.
4) Don’t use a proxy server, and register from the USA. Tracing the physical location of the IP address used to register is currently the best method I have of determining if an account is legit or not. The vast majority of bogus registrations come from IP addresses in foreign countries. If I geolocate your IP and doesn’t come up with a USA location, I’m probably going to delete the account.
5) If you have any trouble or plan on breaking the above rules, email me directly at [email protected]. When in doubt, getting in touch with me directly is your best bet.

Good luck herding cats, Jeff.
March 11, 2017 at 11:20 pm #68104Mike PParticipantIs there a way to change our username?
March 13, 2017 at 5:37 pm #68101Mike PParticipantLooks like it worked…thanks!
:driverMarch 22, 2017 at 8:07 pm #68105Mike EdwardsParticipantKirk…….Maybe no one wants to talk to you that’s why they don’t post their real name. Unfortunately, you know who I am but you never seem to take the hint that I hate talking to you :bang
Note: Have you ever wondered why I always give you the “finger” when I see you?
March 22, 2017 at 10:32 pm #68106Kirk DeasonParticipantYou give me the finger because you know me and my username matches up. You wouldn’t be able to give me the finger if I was hiding behind a name like “bad-mechanic45” and trashing tech guys on the forums.
I like Doug… but you? ..you and I are going to box one of these days. Our fight will start with “Hey I hear Rotax has some new parts again!” Then you’ll say something about my height or how slow I always was and that’s when it will go down. I’ll need a moment to get a ladder for that first punch. :redmen
