ParticipantWhat do you all recommend, a deep seat like a Ribtect PLUS a rib protector, or is this overkill ?
I am wondering if I wedge myself in to a tight seat do I want a vest as well, or is the seat alone adequate ?
What seat do people find best ? I hear Tillet (spelling?) mentioned as often as Ribtect.

InactiveGet a ribtech seat and rib protector. There is no such thing as overkill when it comes to your safety. Last year there were a couple of guys in Colorado that broke their ribs and only because of the high G force through the corners – not an accident. Ribtech Deep Seat w/ rib protection.

InactiveMost important – a seat that fits properly.
I really liked my Ribtect seat. Worked better than any other seat I’ve owned – that include Deep Seat and Tillet.
A vest is a must-have item if you ask me. Again, Ribtect – you simply can’t go wrong with a Ribtect. Rib injuries are not uncommon in karting. They are extremely painful and take many weeks to heal completely – time that can’t be spent in the kart. So, if you bugger up your ribs, you can forget about the kart for at least 6 weeks.
A good and properly fit seat combined with a good rib vest can and will mitigate all but the very worst rib injuries.

InactiveZev,
I don’t want to give the impression that the Ribtect seat is a bad product beacause it is NOT it is an excellent well made seat ( looks way cool too!)
BUT it all depends on your build. A Ribtect seat is just not the right seat if you are of slim build. My son used a fully padded T7 his first year in karting Medium small size it worked great for a begginer the padding really helped. He then out grew that seat and we put him in a medium Ribtect. it was a good fit around his chest area but WAY to big in the butt area had to use trash bags and A/B foam to stop him sliding around in it, the next size smaller he couldn’t even get into! Now we a have a T8 1/4 padded still medium small but it is a little bit bigger than the T7 all the way round, fits him like a glove!
It seems that ribtect/deep seats are great for the “bigger” drivers but for the skinny kids (Scott is 5’11” 130lbs) the tillett or the factory seat seem to work better.

InactiveI use both a vest and seat. Wouldn’t rec. racing with out both.

ParticipantSince I pulled rib muscles on the left and then 6 weeks later pulled the cartilage (broke, pulled, cracked, who cares it just hurts!) on the right i can speak from personal experience and say GET A GOOD RIB PROTECTOR! I don’t know your build but spend the dough to save your sides.
As for seats, i agree with what was said. It all depends on your build. I am 210 with a 33″ waist and the ribtech seat is perfect for me in the upper body but loose in the hips and i’ll build up the butt area for myself.
Just my 2 cents worth.

InactiveHave to agree with the guys. Seat and rib protectors are very important.
Get a tight fit seat with your suit and ribtect vest on. Nothing less!I have seen guys out for weeks because of bad ribs. Just makes for a lousy racing season. Do you want to take that chance?
