ParticipantAt the Steamboat Springs GP, we will have similar rules on noise as we do at Grand Junction. All 2 cycles will be required to have air boxes. All silencers should be in good working order. If you have a little 2 -1/2 diameter x 9″ long M4, you will be asked to put on a larger, quiter silencer. If you passed the sound tests at Grand Junction, you should not have a problem here.

InactiveDoug:
Can you give us an update on Steamboat in regards to track layout, pit area, track surface, pit setup day, etc.
With the short amount of practice and 3 boys we could use all the info we can get.Bill

ParticipantBasically we will be running the track in the opposite direction with some modifications to a couple of turns on what was the back straight to get a little more room or the east side. We need more room there as there will be additional pits along that side. There is actually a little rubber still down on the track so it won’t be completely green at the start.
I would set the kart up a bit on the stiff side to start but the track will quickly come in like last year and will be a fairly sticky by sunday.
Everybody needs to remember and be prepared, this race goes rain or shine.

Rain tires are open, right?
Will racers without rain tires be allowed to race?

ParticipantRain tires are open. However, if the race is declared “wet”, you will need rain tires to compete. Barry Lewis over at Billit Preformance is getting in some rain tires for this event. Those with out rains may want to talk with him. For those who have not run in the rain, you are missing one of the fun times in a kart. It really puts a lot on the driver and set up. All the power in the world is of no use in the wet.

ParticipantMaybe I am all wet , but in years past I raced many rain or shine events. I always had the option to go to rain tires. There is rain then there is RAIN. When we incontered a rainy moment during the race day it was always up to the racer to predict the condition of the track and choose which tire would be best. Even on RAINY days we had the option to go back to slicks if we thought that the track would be drying out during our race. If a racer was wrong in there prediction they would just have to live with it, just like selecting the wrong gear or jet.
That was in the midwest were it would rain for days on end. Seems to me around here storms move in and out so quickly the odds of being stuck on a drying track with rain tires would be large.
If the race is rain shine or snow I do have a a few sets of studded and picked kart tires. - AuthorPosts
