InactiveThanks Don it was fun, we hope to see you guys around some more. Can we run our Briggs WF’s and 206’s at the SKUSA races? We are trying to set the 2013 Schedule and would like to know where else we can participate to show support.

ParticipantChris,
There is nothing to let go of, it is just the reality of the situation. “We” did not screw up anything collectively. I really do care about the sport and am just as frustrated as everyone else. It just pisses me off. It is not a matter of sitting in the same room and working it out. Did you forget why we all met in your office? It was not to convince Stacey and myself to keep our racing group together. Don’t blame us for this, we were not then or now the problem. He doesn’t give a s— what any of the racers want or what Stacey and I want it’s is all about him and he told us all very clearly that night including telling me personally he had no desire to share any adulation or praise with Stacey and I as if we were looking for any to begin with. When he pulled out that velvet bag with that little glass award I new we were not dealing with a normal rational thinking person. Good luck trying to get through to him. The only way that is going to happen is if everyone just quit supporting him by not going to any of his events and then maybe he would get the message. It going to be up to the racers to do it, there is nothing Stacey and I can do change this situation so it is just beating a dead horse.

Thanks Brad for responding.
To the masses it may appear that the 3 tracks from the CSC days don’t care or not interested. I apologize for the way it was phrased. Yes I probably knew better. As one of the three who made it work in the past, the racers need to hear your side of it. I had a message from Stacey and hope he chimes in. Jim as well.
As always racers (consumers) vote by where they race and spend money. Locally, nothing will change until there is an alternative. All bets are off when a new track comes to town.
I acknowledge both Brad and Stacey tried to keep the CSC running and supported The SKUSA Mountain region when it started. Stacey has always tried to be an advocate for our sport and hosted Race The Rockies when it was a start up series. He brought his whole crew to the front range SKUSA races even when we only had a couple of dozen entries. I do believe they have a genuine concern and passion for Karting. I believe Jim was open to the idea of hosting a SKUSA race at one time. I don’t know if SKUSA offering Rotax punches helps or hinders that possibility.

ParticipantAnyone remember when the 1st (of 3) version(s) of the Skusa Mountain Region used to race at Second Creek? Those were the glory days…

Apparently there are some guys still using it for “testing”.

This video was from a year ago. My office is in the north metro area and I take some back roads from there to get to the airport. I drive by that track every time I go. From the side road it looks in far worse condition than this video.

ParticipantIt’s obvious that everyone that has been posting and expressing there thoughts about this subject are passionate about karting. That they would love to bring everyone together under a true state series. But like some have said it’s been discussed on here for a couple years now with no progress. There is an altenative and that is for us all to come together to support an event like the “Racing for Heroes” events that are being planned. We attended the one in Grand Junction last year and had a great time.

Backwards for sure, I was thinking the same thing….that bump on the back straight at 100MPH in a shifter was pretty exciting.

ParticipantI agree with Don Dempsters last post. I am just getting older and poorer as my karting years progress. I will always dream of being able to travel and participate in all big Kart racing events yet a close to home affordable kart racing event like Craig’s
“Racing for Heroes” for the last three years has allowed me to keep on racing karts with a great group of people.
The trend of traveling events with two main events I can understand to be an effort to save in some way yet I hope that a new state series does not follow that trend.December 5, 2012 at 4:08 pm #66053Lee Seigel
ModeratorOk guys I kind of feel responsible for getting this thread opened up. I am watching it and do not see it going in a positive direction. I see wining, pessimistic comments, finger pointing, and off topic distraction So here’s my input for what its worth. I do think a state wide series would be awesome but I don’t think it’s the track owner’s responsibility to make it happen. If the racer’s truly want a state wide series they should unite into a comity, association or club, put together a plan, then propose it to the track owner’s. I’m just the new kid on the block but I truly believe the track owner’s responsibility, is to support such a proposal that would be in the best interest of all. I know I am willing to entertain such a proposal. So lets get back to coming up with a solution. To putting together a 5 to 6 event state wide series
Sincerely

I’m in the same situation as Rodney, I will plan to run a full season at SBR next year and support the Kart Racing for Hero’s events where ever Craig has them scheduled. Realistically, I do not know how a State Series will ever happen again without the support of the track owners, no matter what we do as a kart racing community (drivers, young and old).
Thanks to Scott and Lee for bringing up the topic, for me it wasn’t a negative thing to hear what others are thinking. I’m out for now on this topic.
Respectfully,
Eddy

SBR Motorsports ParkWon’t work Lee, sorry. Never has, never will. Now I challenge CO Karters to prove me wrong.
You and Stacey are the only ones willing to flex at this time. Brad possibly will so long as your willing to share the track with walk up renters on practice and race days.
JB, he may have changed his stance in the last couple years, only one way to find out. Bandi has always been a great place to run.
Jim :down If anyone can figure that one out you will all be back to where CO Karting was 4-5 years ago. Best place to race in the USA, with the most challenging tracks anywhere, especially yours SBR.
Hate to be a downer, but I don’t think anyone, including DW, has any more time under their belts trying to accomplish this than I do.Best of luck, and please do keep this thread going.

ParticipantLee:
Some of the things in this thread are “direct” but most need to be stated in a public forum for Karting in the front range of Colorado. I appreciate hearing from You and Brad.Curt is right, it is impossible for things to change until the track owners collectively work together or at least tollerate one another. I used to believe differently.
The lone “state” series standing for the front range is Race the Rockies and all the races are held at the same track now. I guess if it is last series standing, TTAC won.
That worked out well

ParticipantI’ve been following this thread for awhile and being somewhat new to the karting scene I’m glad I’ve missed out on the drama…..
With that said, Lee is correct in that the racers need to take matters into their own hands at this point because the track owners are not going to collectively put together a statewide series for the racers. Realistically, why would they? Business model, history, personal vendetta’s, etc., whatever is going to prevent that from happening. In reality, the racers need to form a meaningful organization funded by membership fees and sponsors (might be a good idea to not allow specific tracks to sponsor it) that can negotiate with each track that it wishes to hold a race at. Maybe take a look at what CJKC is doing as an organization and maybe use them as a model or try to piggy back with them outright? Whatever it takes, take it out of the track owners hands and instead come back with, hey, TTAC, IMI, Bandimere, SBR or wherever, we’d like to book your facility for X date in X month, for our series and can you accommodate us?
Ultimately though it will come down to whether or not there are enough racers to support it and then who would run and organize it? It would also take some time to build up and get the word out. Outside of having a racer organization to hold and promote races, it might also be a good way to help recruit new karters to the scene. In all honesty, karting as a whole seems rather disjointed in terms of organization so maybe a Colorado Karting Club might be able to provide some clarity.

ModeratorCurt & Cris :
You may be right, I could be wrong, It wouldn’t be the first time and probably won’t be the last. But in theory it looks good on paper. And I will try to clarify my thought’s on this subject in this post.
I believe if the racer’s put together an association, administrated by Honest Competent business men knowledgeable in karting, that could put together a state wide series that would be comprised of 1 race at each track that would (participate), it would take the equation out of the picture that the track owner’s get along or have to work together or compete for recognition.
Further more the lose of recognizable rental kart revenues would be minimized with a one day excusive use of the track per season with rentals worked in with controlled practice on Saturday, and we all know that’s doable. So why wouldn’t the track owner’s support such a program. I see it as a win win scenario for all involved.
And for all the rest of you out there watching this tread who truly would like to see a state wide series come together. The only thing I see happening in 2013 if anything, would be ground work and prep. for a 2014 Series. And that is optimistic at best.
Also I would like to publicly invite Jim, Stacey, Brad, & JD to sign in and comment, whether it be good , bad or indifferent about my thought’s on the subject. I am just new at this so I still have a lot to learn or maybe a fresh perspective?
Sincerely
Lee Seigel
