ParticipantI’ll be racing Spec Shifter Heavy again next year. Though the entry was light this year, a few more guys turned out late in the season and I keep hearing rumors of more drivers switching to Spec Shifter Heavy. It could be a great class with a few more entries. Any of you racing G1 or TaG Master would be a good fit for Spec Shifter Heavy. I switched from TaG Master two years ago because I was looking for something a little faster and more challenging but still relatively inexpensive to maintain. I find the Spec Shifter a lot more fun to drive and was able to race with G1s and Spec Shifter Lights on several occasions (depsite giving away 30 lbs to the Lights). Changing gears keeps you busy and gives you a lot more power out of slow corners and more speed on the straights. The Honda engine has been much cheaper to maintain than my TaG. I have it rebuilt at the beginning of each season (at lower cost than my Rotax) and replace the piston and ring about every 12 hours (very cheap if I do it myself and it’s a very easy job). Also, I also don’t feel like I need a spare engine like I did with the Rotax, so not buying an extra engine reduces the initial cost of a Spec Shifter.
There are a lot of good used Spec Shifters available for reasonable prices. Now would be a good time to switch into a shifter.

ParticipantCharles, I’m planning on running specmoto heavy as long as my sons don’t keep me so busy I can’t. I also talked to Ken Kawakami and I think with enough arm twisting we can get him to run as well. I agree with you its a great economical class, if it wasn’t or I ran TAGS there is no way I could afford to run 4 karts. Hope everyone has good off season, this snow already has me wishing for spring!

ParticipantChris,
Excellent. I look forward to racing with you. I’ve heard about some others joining Spec Shifter Heavy also, so that’s all good.

You just missed some great deals put out there by Rob at Aluminos Karting. AJ at Rocky Mountain Kartworks should have some good deals going on all the time.
Charles,
You are going to have at least (4) more S4’s to race with next summer. Better stay in top shape, some of these guys are pretty fast….December 29, 2009 at 5:17 pm #63290cgordon
ParticipantHey Curt, sounds good to me. The more the merrier. I’m keeping up my exercise program and am already working on my kart to get it ready for next season.
