Don’t know for sure since we are not on that side of the hill, but I think an 18/61 +/- 2 would be a decent starting point. That track will be tricky to gear for and will probably have a lot of different ratios that will get you to the same lap time, but be fast in different areas of the track.

I am pretty sure the Flame can run either direction, although most of the karts I build end up with the chain furthest inboard on the kart (away from the engine) just because of clearance issues on the seat struts. The sprocket should not have very much lateral play, you should use one or both of the large shims that come with the Flame to capture the sprocket and hold it to only ~1mm lateral play.

    richard,

there will be minimal lateral movement in the drum.

like greg said, shim it to make sure the clutch doesn’t move though, as you’ll tear up the keyway if it does. I’m not sure if hilliard changed their installation instructions yet, but for the lo206, the clutch needs to overhang the crankshaft a little, or at a minimum be flush with the end when you tighten it down.. you don’t want any lateral play in the actual clutch. their installation instructions say to allow for movement, which is not correct for the lo206.

2 white and 2 black springs will most likely be the way to go.

you’re set up “inboard” with your clutch, which is desirable.. like greg said, it’s rare to find a kart that you can run it that way, but if it fits, you’re better off with that setting.. just make sure your clutch shoes are pointing the correct direction.

also, when you set up your oil catch can/cans, make sure it gets plenty of air if you combine both hoses… it’s best to run two separate cans/bottles if you can..

if you haven’t found it yet, bob’s 4cycle forum is awesome.. read everything you can by jim from faster motors.. his name is “jimbo” on the site..

Thanks for all the great info! Think I will be able to get close to that gearing with 17-56t gears. The clutch is tight on the shaft (not floating). It is actually the other housing that has the lateral movement. The inner bushing that slides over the crank shaft is tight up against the tapered washer and the outer housing has room to slide a few mm between the back of the bushing and the engine. Maybe it’s designed to do this? Might have the guys at GJMS look at it. Was going to have them align the gears and install a chain for me. The kart is a 2013 Margay Brava 4.11. It has the Bully adjustable seat supports. Doesn’t leave a lot of room for the chain. Running it inboard give me just enough clearance on the inside of the frame. Have had some financial setbacks right now. So won’t be able to do anything with it for a little while. Anybody want to buy a 2001 Porsche Carrera Cabriolet?

Anybody know how many L206s GJMS usually has? I haven’t actually been out there to watch yet. Hoping that this class grows like it has everywhere else. Might have to make a few trips out to the front range next summer.
