ParticipantNow that we are soon to be shifter owners, i have some quesitons.
1. Gears, what should i carry for front and rear gears (remember its a TM)
2. Colorado Gears, what are ballpark-good gear ratios for colorado tracks (this is for me to start with)
3. Spare parts, what should i carry, pistons, rings, jets, clutches…..
4. Fuel, what does one of these things run like at altitude, whats agood ratio 32:1 ????
5. What other things do i need to have, know, do, whateverI would appreciate the information from some of you, considering the shifter talent in CO

InactiveAs far as your primary gears and drive gears go, get them all. I gives you a broader range when tuning in you motor/jetting. To say nothing of fine tuning your driving movements and shift-ponints. I’ll post the ratios I used last year but I don’t think they will be relevent for any thing other than ball park ratios. Mostly because of improper tuning and different ratios in the gear box.
For spare parts you will need atleast one upper end kit and I would pop for a spare head and extra O-rings. A spare jug wouldn’t hurt but that’s up to your budget. Clutch parts would be vital if it were a dry clutch but if it is a pav I don’t think it will be as much of an issue. I would also cary a few spare chains.
On fuel we were going 4oz to a gal. but I think we are going to up the mixture when ever I get a “tuned” motor.

Participantyes, but isnt your SGM have differnant internal ratios

InactiveAre you going to run novice or pro? Either way, you’ll need plenty of spare parts (pro, more so). Speaking from personal experience, a spare top end (extra cylinder and head — complete motor would be ideal) is essential … not having one cost us dearly in 2003. Many would argue that ICCs are more reliable than motos, but I would say that they’re both highly stressed race engines and as such, failures will happen.
Plan on: New ring every race weekend, piston every other. Bodywork, steering shafts, tie rods, brake pads, extra drive chain(s). We went through two sets of bodywork, three steering shafts, five tie rods, and two sets of brakes last season. Maybe extra set of clutch discs??? Every set of jet and needles that you can think of….Rebuild kit for your fuel pump. Gears…..plenty (we were able to run the CSC with three output and six rear gears). I would expect gearing to be more critical on an ICC since their power band is tighter than a moto. Extra axles (in varying stiffness)…. Hubs also (short, med, long). Extra wheels of course — we trashed about five during 2003. Spare chassis bearings (we changed ours out three times last season). If you’re running pro, you’ll need two sizes of carbs (30mm and “monster” for the long tracks). You also might want to consider springing for some jetting software (from our STARS experience, ICCs are quite tricky to jet properly). Lots and lots of tires. Make that lots, and lots and lots!!!!
Welcome to shifters 😈

Participantthanks, i do not really want to buy a spare monster carb, i would prefer if iccs are CIK for 04 for cost reasons. The spares list is about what i expected, i know its lots, but i have most of the chassis parts. Thanks for the info on jetting and gears, i will see what i can do about that

Participantwhy did u chose the interepet w/ a champion TM?? no one, i no of in the state at least in shifters use these chasis or Champion engines.

ParticipantWhy not. There is local support, just wait and see. As far as i know, the first few should be in colorado by the end of the week. Not including mine

Participantwhos gonna be the dealer?

ParticipantBarry Lewis over at Billet Preformance has sold several TM packages that will appear this year. But Kyle is right, not a single one ran locally in the CSC last year. The ICC engines didn’t win any of the championships but they did win a couple of races (Noud at IMI and Wilson at Steamboat). Both ran the big carb. There will be more this year (I have one, a CRS) but moto will still be the dominate eengine.
One thing we need to remember. The ICC engines do need to have the crank rebuilt after 30 gal of fuel. That works out to about 4 race weekends, or for us, about 2 to 3 times per year. Compare that to last year where I didn’t replace my crank in the Honda once!

ParticipantGuys, i am not saying anything about whos ICC’s vs whatever, i just want to know what spares and what not i want for MINE. I really do not care about moto vs ICC, i just want to know about my motor so i have a shot at being productive with the motor. I was talking about chassis dealer, not motor, last i heard a local dealer was going to sell intrepids, as far as i know, it is still on, and i am just waiting to be sure so i do not spread any rumors.
PS (didn’t ryan baily run a TM at steamboat)

InactiveYes he (Ryan) did, I also expect to see more (TM’s) start poping up as the season gets closer.

ParticipantI have seen at least 5 TM’s on those red and yellow chassis come out of Team Billet this winter. Look for them to compete in all classes. All the guys have been testing hard every (dry) opportunity also.
Barry has found quite a bit of extra power with their testing efforts.January 12, 2004 at 7:31 am #45708Anonymous
Inactivelook for a couple big names on Pavesi this year, on some chassis named RBI , or thats what silly season Sally told me.
