InactiveYesterday I received this e-mail from George at CRE. Does anyone out there know where one of these bumpers can be purchased for a 28/30 Arrow ?
“All Junior racers under the age of 18 years old in the following classes; Rotax Junior, World Formula, TaG, 80 Junior Shifters, Novice 125 will be required to have at least 08 CIK spec rear safety bumpers or an equivalent to compete at CRE in 2004. The rear hoop must extend to at least 50 inches from side to side and can not extend beyond 55 inches.”
Thank you
Phil Layton

ParticipantLast year CIK dropped that requirement for it was causing more problems than it was solving. Racers found that they could punt a guy from behind by using the bumper. It encouraged more contact, not less. It was more dangerious, not less. I find it interesting that he is requiring them on non-CIK classes, 80 junior, TaG, and Rotax. Come race in the CSC. You will have a lot more racers and your kart will be legal. It is where all the fast guys in the state will be racing. I expect that there will be at least 10 if not 20 or more racers in each class.

InactiveWell, if you have to use that kind of rear bumper, I guess you’ll have to use it.
If you’ve got an Arrow chassis, I’d suggest you inquire at your friendly, neighborhood Arrow dealer. Last I looked, I think that dealer is George @ CRE!
If there isn’t one availablevia that route, you may have some difficulty finding a aftermarket bumper that conforms to the 08 CIK spec, so I’d recommend you get on the stick.
And, ditto what Doug said.

InactiveHi phil, Please follow Doug welch’s advise and come race with us in the CSC. The tracks are way better and much closer to lodging and resturants. The people are fantastic, and the compitition is awsome. You will have much more fun racing 20 or more in your class and they hand out some pretty cool trophys. Grand Junction Motor Speedway has 10 R-Max regional races on what is reguarded one of the best tracks in the country. Come and give it a try, We look foward to meeting you !!!

ParticipantThere’s been a huge discussion of pros and cons of the wide bumpers on ekartingnews, particularly since the death of Caleb Maxwell while racing Jr 1 last year. Some argue that it increases bumping–others argue that is what the black flag is for. I agree with the latter. Worst case, I’d much rather have my kids bumped off the track than have a kart run over them.
Anyway, back to your question. I’d check with George–I think he’s allowing any of the “wide” bumpers. I think you’ll find that American Power Sports and Rieken’s–among other major shops–carry what you’ll need. Bob Hawkins is also getting a shipment of bumpers in, and for that matter George told me that he is also stocking Buller bumpers.

ParticipantLeave it to George to make up a rule that no other track has in this state and run off more racers at his track. I wonder how many Rotax racers he will lose with this brainstorm.
