Thought I would post this link here to see if any Colorado Karters, Race Promoters or Tracks might be interested in giving this a try. We have had quite a few races last year with mixed classes of weights, ages and motor packages that were all raced together and scored separately which I think were a lot more fun than running separate 2-4 kart class races.
It’s just a post where I floated the idea to a few others that were questioning how to make different motors race competitively with each other. I think it could be a good way to get more new and old karts on track during race day.
It would be a little tough to get it started right, yet the best things about it would be that it would eliminate the need for tech, scales and even new tires. It would make for some rather exciting last lap finishes with the most consistent driver winning all the marbles. http://karting.4cycle.com/showthread.php?7308-WF-Animal-questions&p=68726#post68726December 29, 2013 at 7:15 pm #66800Eddy WyattParticipantLike your idea Rodney. If fact, I’ve been having some conversations with Zak (new PPKRC Pres.) about that very subject focusing on Clones/Animals/206’s and World Formula engine packages all running together. If the CJKC invites us back in 2014 we could give it a try. We know a couple folks here in the Springs that may be interested in running a 206, both ran TAG last year.
Would like to encourage a broader conversation on the topic at some point to find out the true interest level, before I personally spend the money to field a 206 or something similar next year.
Happy New Year,
Eddy

January 1, 2014 at 4:46 pm #66802Eddy WyattParticipantNo worries Rodney. If Greg and Richard bring the Clones back this year maybe we can get some 206’s or other 4cycles on track with them as well. WKA Gold Cup (Pro Gas Animal) is getting lots of support and without question the most affordable and fun way to promote and grow karting in the U.S. Having raced Flat heads back east for 2 years, we learned early on it was economical and really fun, big fields and some very tight racing. Good topic and cool thread/discussion on 4cycle.com. As you and others may know, WKA/IKF and TAG USA (local option rules) all have 4cycle complete class structures and rules if needed. I’d be in favor of the run what you brung just to manage cost and keep it simple. We would obviously want all karts safety checked though.
Happy New Year to you and All,
Eddy

It would be nice to see all these “obsolete” engines get out of the garage and onto the track. Bracket racing sounds like a good way to level things a bit so you’re not guaranteed to get smoked by the guy in the 40+HP Mod shifter. No harm in trying it!
On the LO206 subject; i’ll be building a kart over the winter with one, since The Track has said that they will support the class. I know there are plenty of people out there with not just LO206s, but World Formulas, Animals, Clones etc that could make a sizable 4-stroke class. I’d like to see them run together and scored separately to encourage the 4 cycle growth, personally. We know the racing is great, and everything i’ve read says that they’re incredibly economical…sounds like the perfect thing!

Eddy,
:coJanuary 3, 2014 at 3:43 pm #66805richardhensleyParticipantI’m in. I’ve still got both clones ready to run. Had them out Tuesday!
January 3, 2014 at 5:32 pm #66806Eddy WyattParticipantWe are being told that the 206 class being considered for running at The Track this season is just that, a 206 only engine package exclusive class.
Respectfully,
Eddy

:coThat’s nice. Is it also one exclusive class no 15 and under, or no 15 and over, no over 350#, no under 350#, No clones, no Honda’s, no Flatheads, no Tags?
If a track can only allow one more class during a race day and wanted to get the most karters possible interested in trying that class, another 1 exclusive class IMO isn’t going to do it where as 1 Bracket racing class could turn all the NOs into YES.
The Lo206 is great, I need to freight train a couple of them on a kart some time.January 5, 2014 at 6:41 pm #66808Jon RomeneskoParticipant@Eddy Wyatt wrote:

:coI hope that’s not the case. I can defnitely understand the want for a one make class to make tech easier, avoid unfairness/cheating allegations, etc. But if the class is meant for entry level/affordable racing, the 206’s, Clones, WFs all offer a similar level of performance that could make one class. Not everyone has or wants to buy a 206, but there are plenty with other 4-strokers that would race, and more racers = growing karting, no? Either way, its still a step in the right direction, IMO.
January 5, 2014 at 11:20 pm #66809Eddy WyattParticipantGood Points Jon. Hope Jim and the crew at The Track can pull off the 206 thing, If WE ALL support IT……………….. IMHO, it will happen.
Happy Sunday,
Eddy
