InactiveI dont know if this is normal or not but during take off it hesitates alot , my fuel mixing is 1:45, main jet is 158,155, my major issue is it runs just so rich and floods the engine sometimes I’am lucky even if I can get to start it. I’am just very new in karting.
I appreciate any comments please help 😥June 29, 2006 at 10:18 pm #54178Doug Welch
ParticipantRotax engines usually have a bog. The reason, the carb is way to big for the engine. Usually, the driver has to squeeze the throttle open, not just floor it.
However, if you say the thing is running rich and the main jet sizes are as you say, I would look to the needle and seat and the float bowl levels. The needle and seat should be replaced every 6 months or so. Also, check to see what size pilot jets and which needle is in it. You should be using #30, inner and outer pilot jets and the K27 needle. If you bring the carb by the shop, I can check the float level for you.

ParticipantTell Doug to check the Fetzer valve while he has it. It’s all about ball bearings these days…
Right Rich? 8)

InactiveIf it is sluggish to get on the pipe. It may be worth checking your exhaust baffle to make sure it’s not cracked or broken.
If you’re new, get someone to go out and spend a little time with you at the track. It can save you a lot of time and flatten the learning curve considerably.
Mike if I remember correctly, you had your fetzer valve in upside down anyway! :loony:

Participantbroken baffle, fetzer valve installed incorrectly AND the airboot was leaking.
But the Dahli Lama said I’ll have peace. So at least I’ve got that going for me 8)

InactiveJust picked up my replacement needle and seat from Doug today! Going to test it out tomorrow. I already went throught all the other potential causes. Hope this works or else it to the bottom of the lake for this one or Dougs shop to be split in two with a splitting maul.

ParticipantCheck for leaking floats too.
Be careful what you say around your Rotax – they’re very sensitive. 😯

ParticipantThe fetzer valve is right below the ball bearing catch basin. I’ve seen one located out by the barn, next to the rope stretcher. Hope you find it! Get me a snipe net while you are out there.

watch the movie FLETCH… You’ll discover where the fetzer valve is located. It’s all about ball bearings nowadays. You should pick up a half second if you adjust it correctly…
Am I the only one who watches or remembers old movies???

InactiveZxman,
Muffler bearings are definitely a consumable on the Rotax and should be changed on a regular basis.
I worked at my Dad’s Body Shop as a boy and they sent me to the parts store for a lower radiator hose on a 67′ VW Beetle (air cooled) didn’t take long to question everything they said as a practical joke.
