I am just curious if the pain/aches I get in my ribs after testng for several sessions will be something that I grow out of or am I just old (36 to be exact) and wimpy? I run a Parilla TAG kart, wear a Shift rib vest and have a nice Ribtec seat that fits great also. I am new to the sport and have only practiced a few times at Bandi which I know is rough but I wonder if I am using the curbs too much or??? I run in the low 41’s with 41.0 being my personal best so what’s my problem? Any ideas would be appreciated as my wife gets tired of me complaining about how sore I am after having a blast out at the track.
    Thanks.

    Jim,

Your pain won’t go away unless you stay out of your kart. I wear a ribtect and a tight seat. Have had no problem in 5 yrs and I am 56 yrs strong

If you are sloossing around in your seat you need to put some padding in there or get a smaller seat.

Stay away from the curbs, it does you and your kart no good.

    Rich,
Trying not to disgruntal you, Matt busted two ribs at Bandi two years ago and still suffers today. We have a deep seat, three different rib protectors and padding…
We love to race Bandi and Matt is the raining 80 shifter pilot champ out there, however, there is nothig we have found that makes his pain go away. He say’s it goes to a certain level/threshold then stops hurting. He is only 14 and is having this reoccuring problem at rough tracks. Chances are your pain will be around as long as you race karts. You just need to find your threshold, take the proper pain meds, and try to take turn one a little wider out there.(Counter-clockwise)
Ask Chaz how his ribs and shoulder feels sometime. 😥

    Good luck this season!

I found after getting a ribtect seat and rib gruard my pain went away. The seat should fit very tight, I have to turn side ways to get into it. Bandi is a rough track though.

    Here’s my 2 cents:

I am 206 pounds and pulled (or broke) ribs on the left side of my body and then 6 weeks later I pulled (or broke) the right! All this at IMI! I have a Ribtech with a finger of slop when I sit in the seat and a nice vest. My problem I think is my upper body weight above the seat.

Here is what i did this winter and I haven’t had a problem since (and my wife thanks me for not grunting when i roll over in bed 😆 ) I took my rib vest to the glass store and they cut 1/8″ lexan strips (better than plexiglass) and sewed it to the outside of the rib vest. Haven’t had a problem since, even at Bandibumps. Holler when you’re at the track and I’ll show you. I am in seventh heaven now!

    Mike,
Are you sure your problems at IMI didn’t come from going off track too much????? 👿 You know I’m kidding….

I had a ribtech seat and a sparco rib protector and didn’t have any problems. The seat came nearly up to my arm pits and I was in there pretty tight.

The bumps at Bandi are horrible! There is nothing that can be done there except nuke the track and start over. The rumble curbs tear up sprockets and motor mounts, but that is good for the parts dealers.

I appreciate the advise/info. I guess that I will just have to change a couple of my driving lines and deal with the soreness after the fact.

    Yeah, I was gonna say……

IMI was the first placce I’d go after my ribs healed up last year cuase it’s so easy on ribs compared to other tracks.

I weigh about the same as you do, and I wasn’t running one of those wimpy zitMotors. My Screamin’ Leopard matched up with that GOLD chassis could pull some serious g’s in those turns. Caused several children to wet their pants and an old man to have a heart attack because of my totally sick, radical, and over-the-top performances. Never had a single rib complaint out there last year.

Except when I was up in the tower laughing my a$$ off watching Garwood screaming at Bobby. Now THAT Hurt!

And I’m with Denny. You were probably spending too much time going 4-off. Or were you just trying to cut corners?

What were the kids and old people doing when you woke up? And tell all the folks here who’s bed was really wet when you woke up.

    OUCH!
My sponsorship deal with JOHN DEERE ran out at the end of last season so no more off track excursions.
I think my ribs were compromised due to sucking in that illegal octane booster that Garwood used when he was in front of me @ IMI :bang
As for wetting the bed, that is what DEPENDS are for!

Only one more week of smack and then it’s back to racing. Oh, that’s right Dennis will be READING about racing while he’s sweating in the southern humidity!!!

    Mike,

Hook me up with a temporary ride and I will come out there and show Colorado what it’s all about!! And I will bring my illegal nitro fuel and my A compound tires!! Ahhh, I miss racing. I was close to opening an Easykart dealership here in Charleston, but it didn’t work out….way too much politics in this sport. I guess if you personally know Pablo Montoya then you can tell him how to run the US market. Still a little pissed, but I will get over it.

Does anybody have a kart that they want to rent me for the CSC races?

    Mr. Kistler:

It is safe to assume that I am in your opiniom, in some way dreaming.

This may be true. It may be that I am a victim of the same phenom wherein a man dreamt he was a butterfly and then spent the rest of his life trying to decide if he was a man who dreamt he was a butterfly, or a butterfly dreaming he was a man.

In my own case I have this potent, recurring dream where I am standing atop a pyramidical temple, dressed in the robes of a Sun God, surrounded by naked women who are screaming and throwing little pickles at me. There is a malignant Polish dwarf named Stasha Kwopic standing on a stool next to me and whispering in my ear

“Remember: Thou art but from Holland.”

    Isn’t that weird?

And no I don’t have much recollection of the time between 1967 and 1980-something. All I remember is waking up one morning and Regan was President. I was horrified. I made a sound not unlike the whole Mormon Tabernacle Choir poking red-hot needles in their eyes all at once and screaming REAL LOUD.

And as much as you want to believe it Curt, no, I don’t wet the bed. I have many problems but bedwhetting isn’t one of them.

    Curt,

Sorry to hear about Matt’s ribs. I would think that pain takes out much enjoyment of the sport.

I agree with the others that Bandi is too rough and narrow. JB do something about it.

    Chaz,

Reagan good. Communism Bad. Oops, wrong President.

You need to read “When Character Was King” by Peggy Noonan or her other book “What I Saw at the Revolution”.

Your killing me Chaz. Looking forward to seeing you Sunday.

Thanks Rich. Matt loves it soooo much, he has learned to just accept it. Good news is in talking with the Ace, the next step in open wheel racing is much more safe and comfortable on the driver. Even Barry got a ride in a real Indy car a couple of weeks ago and said it was much more easier on the driver. He looked very fast too!
