I had some friends/family stop by for some of the races yesterday and they were somewhat surprised at the $8 (adult) and $5 (kid) admission price. Either I didn’t read this before hand somewhere, which is very likely, or is this the norm at the CSC events? :idn:
I remember having this issue at some SCCA events in the past, and the overall reaction from the drivers was that it was not a great incentive for a possible new member to be put off by having to pay admission just to check out what was going on. i.e. “race cars, trailers, must be something good, maybe I’ll have a look”. A new SCCA, read CSC member, missed because of a gate charge just to check out what’s happening. 🙁 We actually started the name Secret Car Club of America because of this.
I know there is a $5 charge for extra pit passes, but when Jo Schmo comes driving by and sees all of the activity, I would think that $8 might be a turn off being that they’re not sure what is going on in the first place and just wanted to take a quick peek. Might be a new racer that we all missed out on.
Correct me if I’m wrong on this, but I am curious.

    Thanks,

Unfortunatly because of insurance reasons, they can not let spectators in the pit area without buying the insurance (pit pass). If they did, it would negate the insurance for the rest of us. At Bandimere, there isn’t an effective way to let spectators watch the races without granting them access to the pits. IMI has the same issue, they do not have a seperate spectator area so everyone has to buy a pit pass so that the rest of us can have insurance coverage. At Grand Junction, they do have an area they can seperate from the pits so they do allow spectators in for free. They just can’t visit the caged animals (racers)!

    Jim,
8 dollars for a pit pass is one of the lowest prices I’ve seen this year at any track, in a while. The local track for the local race charges 8 dollars.

Two and three days passes generally run 20-25 dollars and a one day pass is 10.

This isn’t to say it’s too cheap or too expensive. Just that CSC is actually charging well below the market rate.

I understand the insurance reasons, but it still doesn’t answer the “no notice in advance” question.
At the first CSC at IMI it was $8 each, then at the 2nd it went to $10 each with no advanced notice.
For some of us with more than a few extra people coming out with us, this can make a big difference.

The races in the CSC are run by the individual tracks and they set the prices.
