InactiveJust curious if anyone has ever had this particular starter problem.
1. fully charged battery
2. After sending my starter box to Russell karting and having them find absolutely nothing wrong with it, I reinstalled it and have not had any luck in starting the kart.
3. hit the starter button and the starter engages for 1 or 2 revolutions and then you hear a spinning sound (like the actual starter is no longer engaged).
so…. any ideas?
I swapped a starter box with one of J.B’s at a race a few weeks ago and after charging the battery everything worked great, but after mine was reinstalled I was back to the same old problem. 🙁
Am I in the market for a new starter box? or…
HELP!
thanks,

ParticipantI expect it would be your battery or the bendix gear on the starter itself could have dirt on it, or be sticking. I would clean the starter thoroughly and then try a different battery to see if it makes any difference. There is nothing in the starter box that can really go wrong. The green button just connects the power to the battery. Hence if the motor turns over at all you probably have to look elsewhere for the problem.

InactiveYes I had this problem happen with one of my many Leopards. There is a centrifigual clutch on them, that gets weak and wont hold. The starter motor itself was ok with mine, just had to get the new bendix portion; wasn’t much I ordered it through Action.

InactiveHey Jim,
I know how to fix the thing.
1) get a BFH :bang
2) swing it like ya mean it :wave
3) does the word shifter mean anything to ya? :jump

InactiveJim,
I believe when you switched your starter box with J.B’s and your starter worked you probably solved the problem. When the starter turns over a couple of times and just spins it is due to a voltage drop at the starter. Your box turns the starter over but then kicks out due to a possible voltage drop from the battery to the starter. If the battery has a full charge, 12.7 volts, and you hit the starter button and it still kicks out I would suspect the starter button/box, or the wiring harness to the starter. A bad connection or contact could be causing the voltage drop and the problem. Hope this helps !
