Just curious why there’s no interest in an open class? Numbers? Knowledge?
I know people have a few motors sitting around that there isn’t a class created for and can’t use them for anything besides dust collectors.February 6, 2017 at 6:54 pm #68068Doug WelchParticipantThe CKT runs two open classes. One for shifters and one of tag engines. The only thing we ask is that you use unaltered fuel as fuel additives can be dangerous to your fellow competitors.

What about a more diverse open class? Flatties, outlaws, limited mods, open mods, big blocks (390’s, 420’s), etc.
If anything it’d be a great learning experience for others to see what different kinds of motors there are in the karting world.
Even the old KT100’s I think would really be interesting for the 2-stokers to see if they don’t know much about the history of karting.February 6, 2017 at 8:52 pm #68071Eric GundersonParticipant@Mac_49 wrote:

The KT100 is popular in some areas of the country, but historically hasn’t been popular in Colorado for whatever reason. As a result, we attempt to provide a place to race competitively for kart and engine packages that people have. Briggs, Rotax, and shifter classes (also open TaG) are the currently popular engine packages.

An open Tag can use an electric starter for starting which would be no different than an open _____ running within the class. Even unaltered methanol fuel sounds like it could fit within the open Tag class rules. I don’t see the need to make another open class for open motors when we all ready have one that could use some more participants in it. Dust it off and race it.

If that’s the case, and with the LO206 class becoming so popular, are you planning on having an “open” LO206 class?
Again, not trying to push the limits here but a TAG motor can run you from $3,000 all the way up to $5,000 where as an open 4-cycle (whether it’s a GX-200, Predator 212, Clone, B&S Animal, etc.) can all be built to compete for around $2,500 with MANY reputable builders out there already doing this.February 7, 2017 at 4:46 pm #68073Rodney EbersoleParticipantMac, The racing series has been working hard over the years to be all inclusive which has lead to some method of including as many karters racing organized races all completed in just one day.
To fragment the 2 open classes into more individual “open” classes would make it even harder to allow all kart racers and staff to enjoy a meaningful day at the races designed to crown a champion for each class raced. The oxymoron would be an “open LO206”. Just call it an open 4 stroke TAG and go out and try to win with it in the Open class that’s all ready in the schedule.
Also feel free to have one built with a tranny and enter the open shifter class.
What more could a kart racer want?February 7, 2017 at 5:01 pm #68074Mac FrewenParticipant@Rodney Ebersole wrote:

What more could a kart racer want?I have absolutely all respect for staff, owners, promoters, etc. and mean no bad manners in any direction. What works, works. I get that. I’m just wondering if they’re missing out on more than what is available to the naked eye. No offense to the 2-strokes but you’ll always catch me in an underpowered 4-stroke than ever driving a 2-stroke. But because that’s not allowed, there’s one less person in that race.
Rodney, to emphasize on your idea with the shifters…I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to take a 450MX motor and run with the shifters!! ABSOLUTELY!! Very comparable power, very reliable motors, very competitive racing.
As far as an Open 4 stroke TAG…..hey if it’s allowed…. :revFebruary 7, 2017 at 6:03 pm #68075jdavis-403ParticipantHow about some World Formula or Animal racing with retired lo206s 😉 😉 A bunch of 206 drivers have some old 206s around that would be great to convert. 😉

http://www.fastermotors.net/206mod.htmlYep, 😉 I was thinking of that when I posted. Though, one of my engines that I want to convert needs some crank shaft work. So I would need to break the seal to fix that. Its a really good motor just didn’t have the clutch on correctly. Learned the hard way it seems. lol Floating clutches are NOT good for crankshafts!!!!!
