InactiveIf you ran a rotax I would help ya.
Best thing is to advertise that you are going to the track and inquire at the sametime if anybody else-shifter will be there.
Look at Angie’s sign up list for the CSC for your class and give those guys an e-mail.
good luck

ParticipantHi Gary –
Welcome…
I’m in your boat – 1999 CRG Daytona Heron with stock Honda CR 125 and am learning a bunch.I’m brand-new to karting, so if you’ve raced in the past, you’ve got a good start.
This list is a great resource – many knowledgeable and informed people here. I also enjoy the ekartingnews forums.
I’m in Boulder, but down your way, I’ve heard good things about Billet Performance in Parker – Barry apparently has a top-notch shop and can offer lots of help.
I’ve found the Memo Gidley book “Secrets of Speed – Shifter Kart Racing” to be an excellent primer. It’s too basic for experienced racers, but gave me lots of helpful info. (About two-three weeks to get from their website, possibly faster via other sources.)
Hanging out at IMI or Bandimere and talking to people running there should also be very informative – people have been very helpful.
My best advice – GET A RIB PROTECTOR!!! Make sure your seat fits correctly!!! I failed to do this my first and second outing and my ribs are still sore three weeks later.
In March/April, I’ll be looking for some driver training. It worked great when I ran cars, and I’m assuming it will be a tremendous timesaver for learning to race karts well. If you line up any group coaching, please let me know.

ParticipantFeel free to call us at the shop for advice. We are running stock moto this year and I can give you some pointers to help move you in the right direction.
I did talk with JB over the weekend and we are going to do an on track clinic at Action Karting this spring. I will be a followup to our seminar we did last week at the shop. It will include track time and assistance for setup and driving. The only cost will be Action Kartings normal fee for track test and tune time. It will include lead/follow type of driving for all classes. The on track instructor will be Greg Welch, and I will be doing the tuner portion. We will be anouncing the date once we get a chance to look over the calender.
If you are looking for more personalized training, Greg has been doing that for many of the junior drivers. He can be hired for 1/2 or full day sessions at the track of your choice. He is very reasonable but he makes all the arrangments himself. If you want to use him, give me a call at the shop and I will give you his cell number to contact him directly.

ParticipantThanks for the input guys!
I like the sound of the track clinic – I’ll be there!
Although I am always learning how to drive and setup, what I really need help with is loading / unloading / starting /etc. – more of a track hand in that respect.
I guess another option would be to find someone running shifter in the CSC and go practice at the different tracks – anybody want to pair up & do some serious practicing on a scheduled basis? Mabe even partner on race days?
Thanks,
Gary

ParticipantGary, as a 25 year one man pit crew racing operator of karts. I find it best to not worry too much about getting somebody lined up to punish with my madness of practice or even racing these things and just head to a track that has others with this sickness. Try and maintain a good smile and be helpfull to others and phantom loaders/unloaders/starters seem to appear.
I am sorry I missed Dougs clinic this year. I haven’t seen Shockwaves Greg driven stocker race yet. But I all ready think them boys most definately got to be cheeten. 😯February 6, 2006 at 5:38 pm #52726fastg
ParticipantFreezeman,
Yeah, that’s the way I have done it in the past, and if I don’t hook up with someone this year, I’ll just be a lone gun again – all in all, I’ve always found help trackside – karters are usually a good bunch. Just getting feedback before the season starts so I can plan a bit.
Thanks!
Gary
