ParticipantPPKRC would like to thank everyone who has supported us in getting off the ground this year. The 2010 Rocky Mountain Karting Extravaganza was conceived by stakeholders in karting who believed it was in the best interest of the karting community to come together to just have fun and race at a world class race facility once a year and bring the karting community together, politics aside. The support early on for this event was from track owners from around Colorado, clubs and race teams, with that in mind we forged ahead to promote this race.
PPIR stepped up to the plate to offer the infield as an alternative to the autocross lot giving us the opportunity to bring karting that much closer to an environment we don’t often get to take advantage of. The track layout for this event has been tested by a number of karts and revised to account for all classes of karting from kid karts to shifters. NKA has been a big part of the design and review of safety procedures and has commented on our thoroughness to detail in our safety plan. The track surface is smoother and a better racing surface than the autocross lot and we found it to be no different then any other surface we run on in Colorado.
The decision by stakeholders to hold this event at the end of the season was to bring forth the best in all of karting and to display to others how we can come together to compete, share and have fun while promoting karting.
PPKRC was formed to provide a venue for Southern Colorado karters to gather and grow the sport of karting. Part of PPKRC’s mission is to be what we called the “Switzerland of karting” and work with every track owner, club and race team to support their vision and goals and we hoped the same would occur for PPKRC. We mandate that all our members race not only in our races but participate at or in other clubs and tracks in an effort to be ambassadors for karting and to help spread the word that we can only grow the sport of karting by supporting each other, exhibiting good sportsmanship and not undermining each other in ways that wrongly portray what karting is really all about.
We have developed a program called the Youth Sponsored Racing League (YSRL™) that will grow the sport in a grassroots manner inviting youth from local schools and clubs into the sport through sponsorship. We will have some of these youth present at the 2010 Rocky Mountain Karting Extravaganza. We have many other programs that we are developing and would like to share those with the rest of you.
We have discussed with many folks in the karting community the notion of a summit at the Extravaganza Race next weekend to talk about the sport in general and therefore, we would like to host, on Saturday evening the 11th, an open discussion about promoting and growing the sport of karting, scheduling, and most importantly safety.
Our event is designed to have a class for everyone regardless of club or track where you typically race. We see this event as a neutral place for everyone to gather and support the sport and enhance the efforts of each and every track owner and club. Please come race with us and provide input so that we further enhance the experience and passion we all have for karting.
Come be a part of the solution!
Sincerely,
Roger Miller

ParticipantRoger,
Sounds interesting. Has your testing on the infield track provided any ideas about gearing?

Joe,
I can assure you the testing that was done by the PPKRC did not represent the speeds that Pat will carry with his skills and equipment. Our testing would have had you at a GJ base line and as rubber got laid down, you guys could have removed 2-3 teeth.
The revised track sounds like it has been shortened, narrowed, and kinked to slow everybody down, which is a good call. Lap times will be in the 30-40 second range for Pat.
Have fun.September 7, 2010 at 3:09 am #64255gunter desanti
ParticipantWhat is it .5 to.6 mile track?
30-40 second lap for shifter.
Tag could be anywhere between 40-60 seconds?.
Gear it somewhere between Bandemere& IMI you should be right on the mark.
Seems like SKUSA did some REEEEEAAL EXTEEEEEENSIVE Testing.Any track is only as safe as the NUT holding the steering wheel allows it to be.
Cmon, up until now the only split in Colorado Karting has been caused by a clash in personalities.(aka pissing contest)
NOW Politics REALLY is dividing it.
Keep it up boys

ParticipantUsing Google Earth, I come up with something very close to .6 mile.

Participant“Any track is only as safe as the NUT behind the wheel allows it to be”, I love it Gunter, you read my mind!!
Hey all, just go and have fun :green . The PPKRC folks are great. Anyone who went to the first club race in the auto cross lot will tell you it was way cool and safe.
I would definately be there if I wasn’t out off town in support of our daughter giving birth to a new baby girl. We are trying to make it home for the final club race at The Track.
Cheers
