SKUSAMR Update
March 22, 2010The SKUSA Mountain Region staff has been very busy putting the final details together for the first race scheduled in May. Plenty of miles have been logged, along with numerous conference calls and staff meetings over the past two months. Excitement has continued to build as we enter into the final month of pre-planning and deal making leading up to our first Regional event. Even with the experience the SKUSAMR staff has, the to-do list never seems to get any shorter.
Some exciting changes have been made that we would like to announce.
First and foremost, we care about our racers opinions, safety and budgets. For those reasons, after much debate, we have decided to make our first race a Friday practice, and a Saturday full event day. We will not race on Mothers Day! We heard you loud and clear, and we will always try our best to make the best decisions for our racers. We cannot make everyone happy with every decision we make due to other schedules, availabilities and costs, but we will continue to do our best.
Second, we will not jeopardize the safety of our racers, ever. For this reason we are taking our race to a slower, more controlled surface at PPIR. The high banking and +40’ wide racing surface simply creates speeds and challenges we have never experienced in karting. We have done extensive testing on the infield and have thought through every possible detail on the “what if’s”. The concerns we have do not justify putting anyone’s personal safety at risk let alone the damage that high speed crashes can cause the expensive equipment under our racers.
Third, the shift to the alternate asphalt will open up endless opportunities for a closer paddock, covered scales, enclosed tech and scale areas, better vending areas and tighter control of public safety and parking. We also have various track layout capabilities and opportunities to set up a very challenging track for both drivers and tuners. A short elevator ride to the roof of the original tower at PPIR will allow a bird’s eye view of the entire track from 12 stories above the action. A video opportunity never witnessed by any of us.
We will be releasing hotel and restaurant discounts over then next two weeks as well. On line registration will be open soon and everyone will all have the opportunity to reserve pit spots, wrist bands, transponders, tires, fuel, oil and other race related services. Please register as soon as possible to guarantee the best spots and to guarantee a smooth move in as early as Thursday afternoon.
Have we thought of everything yet? Heck no, but we have thought about you, the racers. Please plan on making the trip to PPIR on May 6th for move-in all afternoon; May 7th controlled practice all day, and May 8th a full SKUSA race day event. Be part of the excitement and thrill that has become SKUSA Kart Racing. We will have several out of town SKUSA National drivers that you can challenge for bragging rights, a party with a full dinner on Friday evening after the final practice hosted by SKUSAMR, and some very important people coming in to be part of this historic event. There may even be a NASCAR driver on track! You just never know what or who may show up, but you don’t want to miss it.The SKUSA MR Staff
