ParticipantThe power meter on the north side of the shop exploded and lit on fire with flames shooting 5 foot right next the propane line going into the building last night. The meter box, disconnect and wiring are toast. It took two fire extinguisers to put it out. United Power ran one wire to short and it was under a sharp edge behind the meter and over the years wore through. They won’t even pay to have it repaired. We are on generator power for the next few days so if you have trouble getting through on the phone that is the reason.

Wow! Glad to hear it didnt happen!
Funny thing, almost the exact same thing happened to our house a few years back. Burned a hole in our kitchen wall, and we had to live in a hotel for 6 months. Fun times (not really). 😕

InactiveGeez Brad,
Sounds like it’s a good thing someone was still there! I’d have to have a few cool ones in me to go stand next to the gas line and put out a fire. Did you send Bobby out to “point and shoot” at it?

ParticipantIf Bobby was here he would have poured a beer on it even though everyone knows not to pour a beer on a electrical fire. As it was Joe used the wrong fire extinguiser and found out the hard way as it flamed up in his face. Alan then riped off his IMI shirt and covered his face and shot another one which put it out. If it would have been 5 minutes later we all would have been gone and the building.

ParticipantGlad your building didn’t burn down. Should have hired a Qualified union electrician to do the work. Contact the state electrical board im sure they would help you out with the individual or individuals that did the work.

ParticipantUnited Power did the work, my wiring was not the problem. This was the second time I have had a problem with their work. The first time it went a two foot crater was blown in the ground from a nick in the underground wire.

ParticipantI hope you can get United Power to pay for it. What I saw, it was their fault 100%.
