A dream came true this weekend-
After 1 year and 1 week since I last drove a shifter kart or went racing…….errrrr…..chasing (Rock Island last year), I got to do just that Sunday at IMI.
The dream- I got to be on the track banging gears (at the same time) with my oldest son Christian. He has all of his own equipment and I have my “mystery metal” chassis back. I even have my own motor now- Waaahoooo.
Getting out on the track with your kid is bucket list kind of stuff in my book. Keeping up with him and trying to follow his lines, well that is another story. I am fine with just being on the same patch of asphalt at the same time.
I had the best seat in the house (for a lap or two anyway) in the back watching Super Tuner Jeff Field and my son slice and dice in front of me. Jeff actually drove another kart with a full S5 restricted set up. Jeff is usually good for a quote or two and the best of the weekend, when asked what he thought of the restrictor was “it is like breathing thru a straw”.
I did NOT get lapped and actually got into the mid 54’s. That might not sound like too much to some of you but it is pretty good for me. I ran Dave Watkins down a time or two and let him know I was there by giving him a couple of good bumps. He then took off like a rocket ship and left me out there looking for the Starbucks all alone. I blamed it on missing a couple of shift points. Never should have hooked him up with those new reeds.
And (this is for you JED/Bob) “Let me be perfectly clear” I did not go off roading once. I know there are some out there that might have trouble believing this but I have close to 100 witnesses.
A shout out also to Grand Junctions own Gary Davis- My kart is now 100% ready to go. Name the place and the time. 20 laps no excuses (anymore from me).
Jay and Scott- I was impressed by your organization and how you ran the show. Good Job to you and the entire crew.
Brad thanks to you as well.

I felt the same way when Haydyn and I finally were able to ski together on a powder day. THIS was what I had been waiting for since she was born. In my mind I had always been thinking about how great it would feel to finally see her making some good turns in good snow on decent terrain. Unrelated sports, but the same proud dad feeling. Great, now I’m daydreaming about ski season (again).
Congrats to you, your son, and your tuner on a great season so far.

It is all the same.
Nothing words can perfectly describe.
Not everyone is lucky enough to experience it.

It was a great time
LOL “Love Taps”I was laughing when I was doing it as well. There was a time when I was afraid to do that kind of thing for fear of going off roading.
Karting……….where dreams really can come true
Good times
good good timesSeptember 14, 2010 at 1:08 pm #64304Jon RomeneskoParticipantIt was cool seeing you back in the seat again, Cris, it looked like you had fun! I made a last minute decision to come out to the race, and i’m glad I did, because it was fun! Karting for the fun of it is always the best, isnt it? You’ve got yourself a fast kid, we all have to work pretty hard to (attempt) keep up with him!
