InactiveScott,
Listen to what Doug suggests-I hold him in high regard, he knows what he is talking about.
I am not sure but stay away from Tag Senior, Tag masters as you will get blown away and have to put on major weight.
Your age may restrict you: Maybe Tag Junior may be your only choice.
Doug will know.
The best thing is track time track time and more track time-practice
I plan on being at IMI Wed or Frid and then one day on the weekend. The Beast arrives today!

I was looking over the RMax rules and TAG USA. You can run either junior or international. Here’s the plus and minus of each.
Junior, you have to have your motor worked on by a service center. They have to fit a junior cylinder. Not expensive, nor will it take very long. Get a quote from Stacey over at Grand Junction on the work. With your weight, you will be at or near class weight so you won’t need much lead.
International or Tag senior. As long as you turn 16 before December 31, 2005, you can run International per RMax rules. You can also run Tag senior per Tag USA rules. It would require no modification to your motor. You would need to purchase a great deal of lead, around 55 to 60# @ $2.00 per pound at any dive shop.
In either case, you will not be competitive, at least not at the start. You may stand a little better chance in junior to come in the top 5 (like 5th) but only because of numbers. In senior, you won’t make the top 10 unless there is a big crash or you are the reincarnation of Mario, but he ain’t dead yet! Just to give you an idea of the quality of the guys in Tag senior, there are former national champions, former state champions, nationaly ranked drivers, and just plane fast guys with years of experiance. There are guys in this class who can push a TaG kart around the track as fast or faster than most guys can push a shifter.
My recomendation would be to bite the bullet, spend the few $$$ and convert the motor to a junior motor. Take the first year and learn to race and drive the tires off the thing.

Inactiveokay great. Thanks. Do you know how much it would cost to get the cylinder changed? I am 16 on aug 29th so i think i should be in good shaper for that deal. Right now im leaning twords jr because i have a better chance of doing well and learning before i move up. :idn: 🙄 . I really apprecaite the help, thanks a lot!

ParticipantScott,
The only way you’ll get good regaurdless of what class you race in is following people who are better than you and watching and following thier lines. And to quote the Allen Iverson antithesis, you’re going to have to practice, practice practice! Good luck in whatever class you race and you (still) owe me a root beer on you! (I think I can drink it now since the time you stood me up!)
Cheers,

My guess on the cyclinder changeover would be in the $500-$600 range. Doug is right about running in Senior. You will get blown away by the fast guys. Junior would be your place to shine.

Inactiveokay thanks guys. I apprecaite it. Also, what is the weight for the jr class. Id love to avoid mounting 80 lbs of lead on there. 😮 😥 8)

ParticipantThat sounds high, Duff. I paid for one hour of labor for the conversion on Pat’s kart at Acceleration a year ago. Not sure about the price of the cylinder itself (we got ours for $10 on eBay 😯 , but I think a more typical price is under $200). Don’t get scared off, Scott, until you get a quote.

InactiveI was guessing with the price of a new cyclinder plus labor. I just paid like $500 for a new senior cyclinder with my rebuild. If you can find a used one, fantastic.
