I love the idea of fuel injection. How do they start? TaG-ish? 6k for a motor will turn people off but it will appeal to the SKUSA crowd who already spend that for a spec moto.
OK I want one. Who’s willing to give me $6500 for an 11 year old girl? For 7k I’ll throw in a puppy!

I like that honda actually put this together, and unlike the CR125 you can buy an assembled engine from Honda. One cool side note is they adapted the output shaft to accept the CR125 gears and chains everyone already has.

As you know Eddie Tseng, Lee Seigle and others running with PPKRC have been working with the 250 4 strokes for a few years now. It’s very cool to see Honda is the first to come out with a purpose built 4 stroker for karting. Obviously, we certainly would like to see this class/engine package grow in Colorado. Love to see a Greg Welch prepared prototype at SBR next year….
YAAAAAA WHOOOOO!!!!!! :jump

Shouldn’t we think that maybe just maybe the costs of karting are a little out control. just saying! 😯

ChrisI pitty the poor Tech Inspector at the first SKUSA National event that this motor package will be ran at. That is, if it ever becomes a class. Looks fun, fast and I bet it sounds just as awesome as the boys down South. Cheating one up would be pretty tempting, and it’s bound to happen just as it does in every other motor class. It’s never fast enough…..
October 23, 2012 at 7:40 pm #65954Greg WelchParticipantWell I think it really depends on which direction Honda wants to go. They are the only guys who currently are making and supporting CR125 engines and parts. It really is up to them if they want to kill the parts supply and switch us to CRFs. I’m thinking about selling my CR125 engine while it is still worth more than $500…
October 23, 2012 at 10:40 pm #65955Chris WogrinParticipantGreg I agree, but the decision might be forced on Honda by Goverment regs. All it takes is to make it to expensive to build two strokes and it might end up being the end of the Cr125, heck two strokes in general..
Still it makes me think if I’m going spend that kind of money for a motor. And as Curt says, tech would be insane, rebuilds though the roof.
Makes me pause, and give it serious thought!

This discussion has been going on in Karting for over 10 years, and will be going on for at least the next 5. There are plenty of affordable CR’s out there that are all still competitive. It’s pretty simple if you want to race in full classes, and shift gears.
