ParticipantAfter two seasons of strong running, our K-80 suddenly wouldn’t start. Had it overhauled and replaced the carb, and it would start, but reluctantly. This got worse over a couple race days, to the point that it won’t start at all. The problem seems to be there’s no spark (checked by grounding plug on head and turning motor over–with lights out in dark garage.)
I first replaced the wire leading to the OFF switch, then replaced the coil, then replaced the spark plug wire. No change–still no spark. It seems odd to me that the primary wire on the coil shows ~ zero resistance to the mounting plate–but the coil is brand new and I don’t see any obvious problems, so maybe that’s how it’s supposed to be?
Does this sound familiar to anyone? About all I can think of is to replace the other little black box next to the coil. (Not sure what it does, but since it’s wired to the coil, I assume it has something to do with the ignition.) Given the price of those little black boxes, I’d sure appreciate any wisdom first!
