ParticipantHello all. Due to the fact that I could not stand to remain indoors on karts, and that a Porsche GT3 Cup car has not accidentally landed in front of my house to go racing I have decided to go for even more fun…with a real race kart 😀
I ran into a friends sale on Ebay and could not resist the following offer..
2002 Trackmagic Dragon in Excellant condition. About 40 hours on the chassis, never wrecked or bent. Complete package with everythin you need to go racing except a starter.
Includes:
-Fresh Blue printed KT-100 engine/carb
-Brembo Brakes
-New Steel Nitro Wet Clutch
-NEW SSX 4-hole CAN
-NEW Chain
-Five gears (three are NEW)
-Kart Stand
-Kart Cover
-Chain Breaker
-Portable Airtank
-Two Wheel sets
-Fuel can
-NEW Clutch Fliud
-NEW OIL
-Two RLV iarboxs (Red/Black)Vehicle Condition
KART is in excellant condition. Engine is Fresh and ready to go. Two new carb kits included, and as the kart has been sitting, I would install one new set. This is a former Memo Gidley cart and I will receive this on a pallet this week for a total spent of $2160.00
Now that I have done this, I am wondering if anyone else in Colorado is racing the Yamaha light or heavy classes. If not, can I trade/sell the motor for a TAG class motor (Rotax max ? ) so that I can be instantly “competitive” ? I plan to go a”as is” and practice at IMI/Bandimere as often as possible. Are there schedules online for practice dates ?
More questions about this new $$$ pit !
As far as equipment goes, does a very well built 2002 Arai motorcycle helmet pass muster ? For rib protection, I have been advised to go with Ribtec. What do I need from my suit ? Armor or padding in thighs, knees etc, or is money better spent elsewhere ?
I am alos looking for a small trailer to drag the kart as I am in centennial and don’t think leaving it at either track in the area would be convenient.
Suggestions/trades are welcomed. I run an aftermarket parts biz for german performance cars (avalonmotorsports.com) I will facilitate a trade for “bigger” four wheel parts of the Audi/VW/BMW/Porsche variety if anyone is interested.

InactiveHey…. look who it is. 😯
Glad you found this website, I was going to email you a link to it.
I dont believe there are any KT-100 clases here, so you are going to want to change the motor. I’d probabily go to TaG, so you can go to any of the motors that are legal for that class. Rotax and Leopard are the most common it seems.
I just got my kart today, so I’m down to go out and practice whenever you are ready. ❗
You should check out Harbor Freight for some cheap 4×8 trailers.
BTW, everyone watch out if this guy is behind you on a straight…. he just might plow you off the course. 😯 Ask me how I know. 😆

Participant“gang” thing to put fear into the experienced drivers here 😆 . I don’t think Jason or Brad will be able to resist the pull much longer 🙂
Thanks for the tip on the trailer. Which one did you get ? Also which motor did you end up getting on the kart ?

InactiveZev – Don’t waste your money on Ebay and REALLY don’t waste your money on a Yamaha KT-100….there isn’t a class to run them in and I really doubt there ever will be. Run Tag

ParticipantZev, Dennis is right on. KT 100’s are pretty much non existant in this area. Keep the chassis and get a different motor package.

Participantkiller chassis and a good motor that I can sell off to lower the cost of entry into the TAG class.
I bought the kart from my friend who was Memo Gidley’s rommate. THe kart was a Trackmagic kart from Memo. I don’t see how I wasted any money looking at the overall picture ????
Thanks for your input.

InactiveZev,
I bought the kart from Dennis (2 posts up). It came with a Rotax on it. Originally, I wanted a Leopard, but after looking into it more, it seems the Rotaxs are very competitive and also enjoy a lower weight restriction.
I bought a used 3.5″x7.5″ trailer frame, then extended the deck out to approx. 5″x7.5″. Bought the frame for $175 plus another $100 in wood for the deck(wouldn’t think wood was so expensive).
Try searching denver.craigslist.com for used trailers. I posted a wanted ad on that site and thats how I found mine. If that doesn’t work, I’m pretty sure the heavy duty folding trailers from Harbor Freight are on sale now for $200. Add a wood deck and you are set.
As far as finding a used motor goes, I found that every used motor package was not much cheaper than buying new. Either way, I’d keep your eye on ebay. Every once and a while a used/new motor package will come up and sell for a good price. Also search the web for some kart classifieds, as there are a ton out there.
Are you going to practice with the KT100 on there or wait for a new motor?

InactiveZev,
Go out to IMI or Action and talk with Bobby/Brad or JB respectively and talk costs with them. They will give you a great snapshot of the kart racing in this area.
No KT100 class here.
Welcome aboard and go Tag!
