    Larry,

Welcome to karting and I agree with all that you said. It puts a smile on my face to see so many new Kid Karters out there. Besides being cute it’s great to see new blood. They all had equal engines and it was a good barometer to see who needs more practice than others. Brad, great vision. Keep this class what it is spec racing!

I have some advice for some of the newbies and some not too seasoned racers: When the tires are cold they have NOT reached their performance capabilities! What this means is your ability to turn and braking distances aren’t what they’re capable of. So, be careful and aware. I’ve seen more spins entering corners and exiting corners than I care to see. But then again, the pole sitter at Indy spun his car on the parade lap on cold tires so what else can I say (Roberto Guerrero ’91 or ’92)

Another thing: Practice and Qualifying… It’s NOT a RACE!!! Take cold tires, practice and qualifying and you have a recipie for disaster. What I mean is following someone a kart length or even 4 isn’t a good thing. If the person spins in front of you and they’re sitting right in your driving line guess what? You’re going to get a nice collision wether you like it or not. In yesterday’s conditions you either hit someone or you went flying off the track and became what I’ve been called, a farmer, John Deere, Mowing… I Never saw so much mud on karts! Give yourself plenty of room to practice and qualify. If you come up to slower karts either get around them or slow down enough to give yourself a clean hot lap. Destroying equipment in either practice or Q due to a collision isn’t the way you want to race. And I know your pocketbook doesn’t like it either!

I’m not chewing anyone out so if my tone sounds that way it wasn’t meant to be. I’d just like to see y’all have fun and race instead of scrambling to get your rigs fixed. Or worse, have to go home.

The season’s started! Looks like there’s some good racing already! Those DD2 boyz were fun to watch and I imagine we’ll see even more karters at the next club races! Kudos go to Jim and the gang for once again running a good show. And Kudos to Brad for his vision and perseverence to the kids class and the Mile High Series.

Now, get your rigs cleaned oiled and ready for the next race and think about what I said to help you, the newbies and not so newbies…

    Mike,

I don’t think the Toby’s are new. Maybe a couple years in karting.

It was a fun day. I hope the small turn out is just because the season is starting early and racing in general does not get too fragmented with all the options racers have this year.

I didn’t know what to do without Roman running 2 karts.

    Yes fun had by all!
I thought I was going to have to kill ‘The Swamp Thing’ arriving in the dark fog.
Thanks to Jim and staff for all of the hard work.

Bring over some single malt (Laphroig, 10 year (spelling?)) and I’ll tell you more. Of course after 3 or 4, whatever I say take with a grain of salt!

Rick, get Roman out there and you’ll be fine. I never saw you with the “deer in the headlights” look like yesterday. Thanks for the advice and help BTW…

Great racing everybody. I would like to sincerely thank Craig Neff, please excuse the spelling if it’s incorrect, and Brad from IMI. Neither of these stand up guys knew me from a hole in the ground but still bent over backwards to get my kart back on the track after a master cylinder seizure. Guys like Craig and Brad make the sport enjoyable for everybody. THANKS GUYS!!

I am in Jersey taking care of my Dad and helping my Mother thru his cancer. His sisters from Canada and England are here with us at this time with other relatives from Maryland, Florida and Texas to follow once I leave.

I am pleased for the positve feedback that I have read thru this forum. And I know that WE as a karting community are working towards the betterment of OUR racing series.

I want to thank Older Mike, my right hand man, for stepping in, Jim and THE TRACK for trusting me and my FRIENDS, and lastly, Kevin, Ryan, Blake, and younger Mike (no relation) for stepping up in my abscence.

    As the Governator says:

    I’ll B Back

    PS
What did you think of the Pit “Black” Board?
    PSS
Hopefully, Dad will return home from the hospital today to celebrate my B-Day. That would be the best gift I could wish for.

    Best Wishes,
    Ian

    Ian,

Good luck with your Dad! Hopefully he will have a quick and full recovery.

I was wondering where you were. Things went smooth. A few of the traditionally large kart count classes were small but the racing was good. Not sure about the black board?

    See you soon,

    Rick

What it clear for who it was for in the race?

Because racers should be looking ahead for flags and differnt signals if there are things wrong.

Mike and I thought of this during the off season, so there was no confusion as to who the “Black Flag” was for. It seemed many of times there was confusion who we were pointing the flag at, so instead of pointing the flag at a group of racers and have maybe the right person or the worong person pull off, we left know doubt as to who we were reffering to, thus removing a potential dangerous situation from the track and race.

    Give me your thoughts.

    Ian,
Your crew did a great job and worked very hard, esecially for the guys who just sit in their kart after a spin, waiting for a push. :rotate:

There needs to be a refresher post on how to get your stuff in a safe place, and then worry about a push. (Which used to be illegal BTW) The corner workers should never drop their flag to run to another location. It opens up the opportunity for another collision.

The blue flag needs a little more excersise also. Chris got held up pretty bad at the end of our main for 2-3 laps.

All-in-all, the noobie shifter guys did a great job holding their lines once they were caught by Ben dominating the shifter class. It was the new helmut. That thing needs to be teched! I think the wicker bill is too high!

Nice job Ben. You look good in black!

Ian……I hope your father recovers soon and that your visit is a good one.

If TAG Jr and SR continue running together please talk about drivers blocking and when to use the move over flag. There were several very close calls.

    Thanks

I think a refresher on flags and blocking would be a good thing. Blocking when being lapped was a huge problem at the last CSC race at The Track last year. Everybody has to stay more aware of what’s happening behind them as well as in front.

    Ian,

Mike’s comments were dead on. There was a Tag Senior in with the Juniors and he was make multiple moves to block Tyler. This went on for several laps and was not delt with. Thankfully Tylers racing experience and cool head prevailed, it could havebeen ugly otherwise. He used the blocking moves to overtake this driver. You would not have let this happen more than once. Other than that they did a great job.

Personally, I feel any blocking is crap and the driver should have been black flagged and Tyler let by to go see if he could hang with the dominant Jesse.

    However

I think in our rules we say one move is ok, and I only saw one move. I think by our current rules that blocking was legal although it shouldn’t be. I say we make a move to get rid of the one move rule, and say that any movement off the preferred racing line is considered blocking.

Tyler had showed a lot of maturity in that race.

Greg, he did only make one move, but the first time he made that move Tyler was already there.
