ParticipantJust wondering how everyone received the sound package and background music at the first CSC event. I thought Drew did a fantastic job with the announcing and trophy presentation. I was able to follow what was happening on the track throughout the entire day.
The power outage was caused by the food vendor rolling in and pluging in two coffee pots and a cheese machine for the nachos without asking how much power was available. We had a 12KW generator there for just that scenerio and was able to get the food guy off our sound/timing power. If anyone is interested in power for any future event, please contact me. We can set your trailer up or tent space with up to 30 amps of 220.
There were rea$on$ for the lack of $ound equiptment to reach the far end of the pit$. We would like to have more buy-in from the karters to kick it up a notch at future large events. :direct
Those sound guys are available for any type of function from backyard graduation/weddings, to big time concert events.
You can contact them at: Equilized Productions, Dave Kistler, 303-358-2731. Mention my name and they will even add some money to their quote. :jokerChaz,
There is even more James Gang where that came from. Wait until you hear Jeff Beck and Beautiful Day tunes rolling thru Steamboat. Request’s are always played for a small tip.

ParticipantJeff Beck?
If you play Freeway Jam or Porkpie Hat it’s a gauranteed .2 second per lap improvementApril 15, 2004 at 11:09 pm #46831Joe Rosse
ParticipantThe sound was great up near the track–really added a professional feel to the event. But hearing announcements etc in the South 40 was impossible–which was a particular challenge given all the changes to the printed schedule (not to mention the whiteboard that had the order wrong too).

ParticipantThis will become even a larger problem at Bandi when the drags start. Just the noise from the generators, kart motors and everything else going on make it very difficult to hear announcments. (Which may cost you a practice session or even qualifing session)
Dave has purchased an FM broadcast module much like what Stacy has, and Brad is about to use. My suggestion is to purchase a Home Depot construction grade boom box that runs on it’s own batteries, tune it into whatever band they will be broadcasting, crank it up and enjoy the show from wherever your pit ends up.
This technology is OK for what we are doing, however, it sometimes gets a little out of whack when other outside stuff interrupts the signal. IE: Bandis FM signal for their own sound system, the airport at GJMS, and the UFO’s at IMI.
It is getting better and someday we will roll out the big stuff for a real show, perhaps Steamboat. :cheers:April 16, 2004 at 2:02 pm #46833Rodney Ebersole
ParticipantCool, So how much for a thirty second spot of self promotion? 😛

ParticipantIMI is the only track that has a good sound system. The Motocross track in Miliken has been broadcasting their races on the FM band for many years. Its about time karting tracks, those w/ worthless sound systems step up to the 21st century.Since karting is twice as expensive to race as Motocross , I think certain tracks should puts some of thier profits back into thier programs instead of in their pockets.

InactiveGreg,
Do you really think anyone is going to believe that you know all about the different kart track’s financial situation? That’s what you’re presuming when you make a assinine post like your last one. If you yaber on about things you know nothing about, no one is going to pay you any attention. And if you can’t say anything constructive SHUT UP!

ParticipantWell, that was certainly a good role model for a constructive post. 🙄
The reality is that reliably hearing PA announcements can often be difficult, and missing them can be a bummer. Curt has suggested that FM transmission is a better solution than bigger PA systems–that seems constructive.
Perhaps another way of framing Greg’s point is to ask who should pay for it. As I recall, an earlier post suggested that not too many racers were willing to pay more in registration fees in order to have better PA systems. Maybe the FM system is a reasonable compromise by splitting the investment between the tracks (who purchase the FM system instead of bigger PA systems) and the racers (who purchase boom boxes as Curt suggested)? Everyone benefits–racers don’t miss gridding instructions, race directors experience fewer delays, sponsors get more for their investment!

ParticipantGreg, one kart track in this state is in serious financial trouble, and i doubt that purchasing PA on their own would have even worked, so please do not assume you know the financial situation of each track. Especially please refrain from stating that they are guzzeling the profit when the tracks in the state really are trying hard to help the racers

ParticipantJoe is hitting the nail right on the head. It is my understanding that Stacey has a FM system and it works pretty well. He also has a track announcer. Brad is getting the system and has had many discussions with Drew. JB has spoken with the sound dudes about future events at Bandi.
I feel we are heading in the right direction as far as the production of our races go. We just need to keep the discussion going forward and see what systems work best for us at a reasonable cost.
So far, the FM/BoomBox sounds like the way to go. I am sure after GJ we may have good or bad results. Lets wait and see. I will have my speakers letting our camp know whats happening. I am just going to miss the music during the dead air times. 😥Curt

ParticipantThe FM transmitters are available from Techno labs in LA for $159 which will tune from 88-98mhz. I used one at our last MX race and it worked great. I have a larger antenna $79 which makes the range about a mile. My PA will go as loud as you want it is over 5000 watts. I also have a device that records and plays back commercials, announcements or songs, up to 1000 on a hard disk that you can access by a numbered control panel. It is used by radio stations and can be programed to do a 24 hour broadcast. It is called “instant replay”. I will get with Drew and we can program commercials for sponsors, music, or whatever.

ParticipantGraeme,
You can if you have a sound tech at the control board. That’s what was happening at Bandi.April 21, 2004 at 1:28 pm #46842Greg Johnson
ParticipantLoren, This is an OPINION forum. If you dont like what I said ……….to bad. If you feel you must get personal with your blabbering, feel free to stop by my camp at the races.

ParticipantWe have the FM system and as Brad said it does work really good however, with us being so close to the airport their radar system really has messed ours up so we are installing a new system that should be awesome!! It will be in by the CSC race along with the new pit area.
New PA system $8,000 New Pit area $30,000 your happiness priceless 😆 - AuthorPosts
