Hello Racers,
On Tuesday, January 09, The Colorado Karting Tour held its most recent board meeting at Great Scott’s Eatery, Denver, from 6 to 9pm.
This meeting was held to reflect upon our most recent racing events, our current racing product, and administrative and general agenda items. Outlined below are the resolutions, comments, and changes that were determined at this meeting:
SBR Confirmed for August Date: The Colorado Karting Tour is pleased to announce to our racers that SBR has signed on for Round 06 of our 2018 championship season, slated for August 05. An updated calendar and schedule graphic is attached to this email. Look for an update to our website and associated calendars shortly.
Additional Details Surrounding Grand Junction: While still a work in progress, the tentative plan for the CKT race at Grand Junction is to continue as planned with a 2-day event. Practice will be held mid-day on Saturday, June 02, with qualifying and heat races beginning at 4:00 PM. This allows for Sunday to feature the main event races, giving our racers a chance to pack up and head home earlier on Sunday, due to the distance.
Vehicle Vault Confirmed for 2018 Banquet: The Colorado Karting Tour is excited to announce that our series will be returning to the Vehicle Vault in Parker, Colorado for 2018! Based upon the atmosphere, professionalism, and economics of the 2017 banquet, the board and members present have determined to continue to utilize this venue for the coming year.
Trophy Size Discussed: The size (and therefore cost) of trophies was discussed at length at this meeting. While no resolution has been finalized, a tentative plan to decrease the size of the trophies was proposed. This would be done to save costs throughout the season.
Class Structure Examined: CKT continued to evaluate our current racing class structure. For the majority of our racers, the classes, age structure, and competitive environment remains unchanged. However, Adult 206, MicroMax, MiniMax, and potential KA100 entrants please note! After considerable debate,a tentative plan has been enacted that will potentially re-combine Adult LO206 Light and Heavy into one racing event (classes shall still be defined as separate). In addition, a LO206 Masters class (drivers aged 35+) was debated. This class would have a minimum weight of 385 lbs. As of now, CKT intends to combine LO206 Light and Heavy (and Masters) into one racing “flight” for the “Run Your Rust Off” race for 2018, and evaluate further combination from there. We strongly urge our members to reach out to us to provide feedback and honest commentary on this tentative decision, so that we can make the most informed decision in the near future. In regards to Micro, MiniMax: Based upon projected entry numbers for 2018, the tentative decision has been reached to combine Micro and Mini Max into one racing event. As always, these classes shall be scored separately and started as separate classes. In regards to the KA100: CKT has tentatively decided to race KA100-equipped karts in the Rotax Senior/Open Tag event for initial evaluation. This decision was reached after considering the relative experience of potential KA100 entrants, as well as the performance ability of the engine package compared to existing classes.
As always, we strongly urge our racers and fans to reach out to us with constructive comments and concerns.
The Colorado Karting Tour will be hosting our next Board Meeting event on February 13, at Great Scott’s Eatery, Denver, from 6-9 PM. As always, all are welcome to attend.
The 2018 season registration and sign-up will be held on Saturday, February 17, at Unser Karting & Events. Please stay tuned for further information regarding this event soon!
I look forward to seeing you all at the track in the near future!
Best,
–Eric Gunderson
