ParticipantHello all.
First off, I will put out a class list to start discussions with.
9 classes. Some combined, but thats life.
I am looking at Colo Karting from the outside, as a past racer and as a track owner. This topic was debated and discussed in depth at Kart Expo this past Feb. The successful tracks tell you what to race, but you may test and tune with whatever you want.1 ) kid karts. Exhibition only. Sorry parents, this is not for you, its to teach reaction time, driving skills and racing for the 5-8 year olds.
2 ) TaG Cadet. Gazelle motor. We have been running two of them for rentals and they work great for the 9- 11 age group.
3 ) mini max
4 ) Tag Jr./ Rotax max Jr.
5 ) TaG Sr./ Rotax max Intl.
6 ) Tag Masters/ Rotax max Masters
7 ) 80 jr. / Novice shifter
8 ) 125 Spec./ pro 125 (spec at 385)
9 ) 125 Spec Masters / 125 masters. (weight at 420)
These are my thoughts only and my views.
Open for discussion.
Next topic. Temp course. I love them. No home court advantage, different, scary and fun. Is Greeley GP a Rock Island? No Way. Not even close. First off, Rock Island is actually on a street in a downtown area, not in a parking lot away from the public eye. Stop calling it a street race, because it isn’t. The race didn’t stop any traffic from going somewhere as a street race does. I thought it was sad to see the race track lined with empty sponsor tents.
Call and promote it for what it is. A temp track for the CSC.
I’m not intending to promote the Track, however, we had over 5000 thru the gate for our CSC race. That didn’t count racers. It’s all in who you sell to.
A good promoter/sponsor friend told me some very important advice…PARTNER WITH PEOPLE ABOVE OR EQUAL WITH YOU!!! Not below you. If you want to race for a national title, go to Sarts of Karting, and chase that dream. At the regional level, the CSC is close to the top.
PKC is below. That is why they keep bringing out CSC racers to meet with and try to sell the series. They need to partner with the CSC as the CSC is above them. We should be telling the PKC they need to join the CSC, not the other way around. ( I can see it now, the California Sprint Champs…CSC West!) That is the other side of the coin.
Once SKUSA sold, they lost everybody except 35-40 karters in the great lakes. Chris from Oregon is gone, Bill in Florida has no need for them, Rodney has no use for them in Texas. and we have a great regional series that needs a little “tweaking” to keep moving forward. Every Region needs to take care of their customers. The Grass is Always greener. (look what they have, look how they do this, look how..blah, blah, blah) If the CSC is so messed up, why does everybody want the series so bad?9 classes sample race day
8:00am practice 10 min. 1 1/2 hours
9:45 am Qual. 10 min session.
11:30 Heats 10 laps
1:30 Heats round 2!!!
3:00 mains 20 laps Finished by 6:00pm.
Let the discussions and lunatic ravings begin….

ParticipantWhoops,
Forgot the races…
5 Thats right… FIVE! GJ, IMI, Track, AK, Temp or Cre. I don’t speak for CRE and I don’t care. Rich, George can speak for himself. It’s just another track. The Temp tracks are fun, just as long as we have a good Regional championship. No drops.
Whew,
That ought to stir the fire a little more…

ParticipantJim, you really had 5000 spectators for your CSC race? That rivals any kart race I have been to. Where did you park all the cars? How many crapers did you rent? You must have had free beer. I must ask for a piss test to see if you have been taking drugs.

ParticipantJim……..Maybe I’m wrong but it sounds like you are bashing the Greeley Grand Prix WHY?
A lot of people donated there time to promote the Greeley race and karting in general with nothing to gain, just there way of giving back to karting.
I thought you would have been more thankful…
So now we have the Gazelle Motor to think about, were moving to tag jr next year and maybe I shouldn’t care but this changing motor packages in the JR-1 class every year makes NO sense.

ParticipantThe one thing I noticed is the difference between a parking lot race and a street race. The parking lot race you are forced to bring the people to the track, which makes it more of a hassle for spectators and more of hassel to get them to come. And if the parking lot track isn’t a staple in the community it might take awhile for the “crowds” to build up. A street race forces people to come to the track, the racing is brought to them and a lot more people tend to watch.

ParticipantRich,
I apologize if you think that way. What I am saying is there are always three sides to a story and if CRE wants to be involved then CRE needs to STEP UP. Silence is not golden and the sideline is the just reward. I’ve personally never met George so I can’t judge.Jim: good thoughts. Combination is good. And I for one (still) don’t believe we need to prostitute ourselves to join some organization. Pay to plagerize a rule book or write a new one so we don’t get in trouble. And again I say “what can your organization do for me.”
We had SKUSA’s hand up our dress once and I’ve had enough violation for a while 8) And i still have my neato SKUSA patch. And that was worth what???????

InactiveJim,
Good comments!
I am no way shape or form speaking for CRE/George, just trying to unite CO karting community. Doesn’t look good though.
Jim in your Time schedule: it looks like you are recommending 2-heats and then a final-I like it but 6pm is still late. A change from 1 heat and a final.

ParticipantI see the possibility of a 5 or 6 race CSC season, with 1 drop. Those elegible for a drop must race more than 50% of the races at their choosen “club”. With standardized scoring and some regulation of the number of races at each club, the average score of club finishes would be used as the drop. This would surely help participation at the club level.

ParticipantThere definitly needs to be a class between kid karts and mini-max as the hp and speed jump is more than I would like. A 7 year old is not ready for mini and yet is too big for kid kart. Rotax has recognized this and is working on another set of restrictors to bring the power and speed down further. When combined with a fixed gear ratio, this could bring the power in line with the ability of hte racers.
The restrictors are already made and the testers already lined up. The testing will start right after the Rotax Grands in September. I will try to get a set of restrictors here so that we can test also and determine if this is in fact a viable method.
If this were to work out, then a parent would only have to buy one motor and it would be good for the entire time the kid was racing. That was somthing I found very frustrating as a parent when we started. It seemed that every two years I had to give away all my old stuff and learn an entire new package. Had I been brighter, I would have quit, got a jet ski and hung out at the beach where there’s more women!

ParticipantGood morning,
Mikey, I’m not bashing the GGP at all. I know the work that is involved. I go thru it 4-5 times a year with Champ Car. It’s thankless, hard work.
I’m looking at the event from the outside. I see the Rock and what it is. I’m stating that the GGP won’t be like the Rock until it moves into the streets downtown. Until then, it needs to bring the people to it. It should have brought the event to the people.Brad… Humm….BEER!!!
Doug, Get on it!!! The one constant problem in every discussion I have had with a list of classes is the step out of Kid Karts. Is the Gazelle the answer? Don’t know. Is a restricted Mini Max the answer? I don’t know.
I do know that this year and past years we have been trying to keep everyone running. Built K80, stock K80, JR1 animal, etc…
The series needs to pick one, dictate it and stop changing. I like the Gazelle or the restricted mini because there are published rules and specs for each one.Mike J. I couldn’t agree more. I don’t see a list anywhere of what you are buying from the so-called national series. So I suggest this… Send me $75.00 Everyone one of you. I will be your leader. You may call the org. anything you want. I will sell you tires and fuel. You HAVE to buy it from me. I will keep all the profits and throw on an event at the end of the year that you will attend. Oh, by the way, this event will be open to anyone else who wants to come, not special just for you… and you will buy more tires and fuel from me… Need I say more. (patches are extra) (but required)… (ha, ha)
Back to work…
