First sorry for the ?new topic? but try as I may the website won?t allow me to ?postreply? to the existing topic of ?2008 CSC Series.?
TECH:
Each year this seems to be an issue within CSC and track races, but for everyone who races a ?national? race they seem to love the tech that occurs at that level. Perhaps we should attempt to equate the two? Regarding having Tech and still being accused of cheating, those who complain; always will, but CSC, and track races for that matter, need to have tech period. If tech is perform consistently at each race and randomly on various components the only way I see one can beat the Teching system is to have insider information on what is going to be tech?d and what is not.My experience: Sealed motors make it easy on tech but have the opposite effect on cost.
JUNIOR 1 CLASS:
If you kick out the Jr 1 class, you just as well kick out kid karts too, but in my opinion the health and fun of this sport is in those classes. As I have said before on this website the Jr 1. class is a complicated class. You are balancing cost, performance, and safety perhaps more than the any other class. Everyone involved in this class needs to look at those factors and future trends and then decide upon and more importantly in my opinion stick with a chosen motor for a minimum of 3 years before re-evaluating the issue again. Performance and safety are somewhat tide together but cost can and I believe will drive the size of the class.
Unfortunately Ron, I heard that 12-15 minis would be racing this year too mostly due to the Grands coming to town but each year we seem to have around 5-7 with this year being on the bottom end of that. I have expressed my opinion on this, and we all have our own agenda?s, but if CSC plans on keeping the Rotax mini-max class, then as suggested here within this topic and also last year, further restrict the mini-max motor for the 7-whatever age kids. (Perhaps over time having these two mini classes enough ?used? mini-max motors will appear so that they will become affordable to most.) Another option since the TAG Worlds maybe coming back again is to form a Junior class based upon the TAG Cadet motors of TAG USA. Doesn?t that class by itself cover 7 to 12 years via two classes? Finally for those who can?t afford $1700 to $3000 motors for their kids, please keep a ?cheap? four-cycle class at the club ?track? level.
DROPS:
Regarding drops, well for us and let me say we take are kart racing seriously, they are a HUGE factor. I have a young family and in the summer months we are involved in vacation, summer camps, weddings, reunions, etc and thus a drop or two depending on total number of races is a must. Case in point, this year we were not part of CSC because of ?no drops.? We had a family wedding to attend in which all my kids took part in and coincided with a CSC race. In fact the year before, 2006 season, when we were racing in the CSC ?with drops? and used one due to another family wedding.CLASSES and CLASS SIZE:
I leave this to the track owners for the most part, but in my opinion if 6 or 7 karts are not signed up and running the series consistently; isn?t that say something? Perhaps for those who really want that class to exist they can first, be the class sponsor and second, help ?promote? the class with an engine lease, rent, borrow, or donate program (Similar to what Brad did for the 4 cycle TAG class)?TWO DAY EVENTS:
I currently see them as two day events already since most show up the day before to dial in. Under a ?2? day system, I bet most will come in one day earlier than before, making it actually a 3 day event (taking additional time off from work). I haven?t found the pace of the current ?1? days system to be too intense but then again we come in the day before to dial the kart in, but if we can have more time for additional races and tech then perhaps it would be worth the additional time and money required? For what it is worth?

For the entry level 7-9 year olds, to my understanding there is a
MICRO-Max Rotax package.
As for the Mini Max Class, @ the Last Club Race I was approached by
3 Jr1 Fathers who stated they are looking to move into MINI-max. With that in mind I have a list of 9. Now a List is just that, a list……
So what I understood was after the experiance of some, they want a package that will allow growth. Another topic another time………..
After talking to some they spent more in Jr1, then I did in Mini max.
So I’m hopeful Mini Max will grow next year, and when the time comes for the 2009, Colorado will have some well trained Mini Maxer’s for the Grands!October 10, 2007 at 5:27 am #59756AnonymousInactiveRon discussion is great, that is what this is all about. :rotate:
Regarding the cost, well anything is possible, but unless they had a lot of bad luck in the Honda program, compared to a bit of bad luck like we did in the mini-max I find it hard to believe. Just go down the list of engine components comparing the costs.
I have been in this for a couple of years and heard about the numbers all before in this class or that class? all I can say is for the growth of Colorado karting I truly hope your numbers are more than just a piece of paper.
Rotax as a growth package, if you plan to run Rotax and only Rotax I concede the point to you and perhaps that is your goal. But if you are planning to run in the next class up, TAG Jr in either the CSC or TAG USA which motor would you choose for 08? (I would be very interested to hear others thoughts regarding this question). How many Rotax motors did you count in TAG Jr class at TAG World? How many Rotax motors in TAG Jr within CSC? Unless the rules are modified in Rotax favor, I believe most will be buying another slightly cheaper motor to compete within this class.

Barry, Jim and I have been talking about doing some testing to find a happy medium between Mini and Micro. The goal is to have 10hp with good throttle response. I have a smaller restricter here that I will be giving to Barry for testing.
The MiniMax is a great package and unless you have some unfortunate circumstances, you should run all season with little to no problems. I can’t comment on the Jr1 Honda package as none of my customers ran them extensively and I have no personal experience with them.
