Mike,
I like the track too, but must agree on the roughness. Considering the results of my last outting there, the tracks condition is of some interest/concern to me.
We’re told that the track will be smoothed in the most toubled areas – first and last turn, the dogleg on the old back straight, and the transition coming down the hill into the old back straight. If they can get those sections smoothed before next season it will be a huge improvement.
Despite that, I do like the track. You really have to drive it, and it does not suffer sleepyheads well (ask Mike Broad). You have to be totally focused on driving every second. It’s unforgiving of mistakes, and one slip can cost you a lot. As a result, it’s a tough track to drive fast, but that makes good laptimes VERY rewarding on a personal level. I was turning my first 41.x second laps when I had my accident. It was very satisfying to know that, but it didn’t make my shoulder fell much better 🙁 .
It may not be the best track in the state, but it is the most demanding, physically and mentally. You have to be good to be fast, and that’s why Mitch did so well there. He’s one of the more underrated drivers in the state, despite the fact that he’s probably forgotten more about race driving than many of us will ever know.

Chaz,
I remember that Butt whuppin’ it was my first look at the track too! I had to take advil for the dizziness (so many spins during practice). JB has really improved the track from that race to the 2nd race there. I think the track is rough but i really like how technical it is.
That’s why i look forward to next year’s series! I didn’t realize it was Mitch’s first look too. I was checking out results from all the races and IF we can get half of the people to participate in CSC we’ll have a crowded and fun field.
Walls and I did our sit ups at the gym this early AM. You all best be ready for ’04. I’ll let my times speak for themself next season.
