Okay, you wanna be like THAT Rich, how about this – and I CAN comment on this as I paid VERY close attenion to these things, and you don’t have to be a racer, or a rocket scientist to figure it out.
Rotax Racers outnumbered all other TaG packages by somewhere in the neighborhood of 2:1. Based on that alone, the success rate of Rotax packages on any track could be expected to be higher than the others. Engine performance had little/nothing to do with it.
Add to that the fact that the most experienced TaG drivers were on Rotax engines. In many cases this wasn’t so much a matter of choice because some were running on last years engines and in this class it was pointless to pick up a new engine based on relative performance as the verdict was still out on that.
Anyway more Rotax karts piloted by the most experienced drivers equals a field where Rotax karts would dominate. It was a numbers and experience game, pure and simple.
Things are very likely to change this next year. There will be more Leopards on the track that in ’03. Some of these drivers will have a lot of experience. If AJ continues with his Sonik, that will certainly change things. If Courter returns with the Biland and gets the gremilins worked out, we’re all in trouble.
The Rotax guys have bragging rights for last year, but that’s history. ’04 is right around the corner, and I see a whole new ball game coming and that’s the one I’ll be playing in.
