Rotax Maintenance:
Clean and open up everything, remove chain, airbox, carb, power valve, chassis, etc,
change oil every 3rd race
change lines when stiff and hard
change exhaust packing every 7 hrs
spray carb cleaner on engine and clean down
set up gears for next race
charge battery overnight
ready tires
check alignment
total ~5hrs to prep before every race day
normal maintenance (tires, brake pads, plugs,gaskets, gas, oil, cleaning supplies)
2003 time: 17 hrs that is 16 races + practice days that is about 1,100 laps around IMI.
2003: Spent $6,100 to race—that is everything! the biggest expenses consumables and repairs
Have not changed any bearings
I tear the kart completely down at season end and clean, oil, replace what needs to be replaced and send engine off for refreshing-last yr only a ring this yr may be piston, ring, reeds more expensive.
then rebuild back up-a great learing experience
I expect to be back on the track in Jan weather providing. Nov and Dec are my off season.
