Here was the feel good story of the year. This is Davey Hamilton sandwiched between my folks. Davey had a massive wreck at Texas Motor Speedway in the summer of 2001. The injury to his legs was so severe they thought he’d lose both feet. He was transfered to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis where after 20+ surgeries he regained the use of his feet. His desire to return to the track was not to be denied and he finished 9th in the race, his first return to Indy in 6 years. One heck of a guy and a true racer.
You can always tell a race car driver who’s been injured severly. Watch them walk. Rick Mears, AJ Foyt, Davey Hamilton, Buddy Lazier to name a few…
