Brian, I don’t know why you are interested in this class. Brandon is 11, and is beyond the purpose of this class. This class is “a step up for the kids moving out of Kid Karts, or for the fairly new driver in this age range”. That does not fit Brandon.
As a matter of fact, this brings up an issue that is not addressed in the rulebook, but should be….. Once you move up in class – in this case, from K80 to Mini Max, Animal, or Novice Shifter, you can’t go back. I realize that it is not in “the book”, but will be posted as an addendum on the website (along with a couple of other items that need clarification in general).
Taking the K80 back to a box stock sealed class puts it at a step between the Kid Karts and the MM or Novice Shifter. The situation last year where several kids ran K80 and Novice Shifter was a little different, as at that time the class was running at much fasters speeds. Brandon is already 11, and you should just move on. Brandon does well in his shifter, if you want to race in a second class, try the Mini Max ( it is a blast!).
As for your questions, you have some good points, and I will be getting answers ready for those that will be racing in this class. Whether or not the rules are detailed enough for your liking, there is definite “intent” for the class.
