Howden Confirmed as KartSport GP Announcer
The organizers of the 2nd annual KartSport Grand Prix presented by Bridgestone are pleased to announce that Rob Howden, of Super Kart Illustrated and Ekartingnews.com fame, will provide the play-by-play trackside race call for both days of competition at this year?s KSGP. The race, to be held April 29-30 at the Infineon Raceway Karting Center, will be the site of a significant collaboration between Howden (editor of SKI) and Jeff Franz (editor of KartSport Magazine).
?With all the battling that already goes on within karting, I don?t see any need for the media to be part of the conflict,? offered Howden. ?I?ve always said that the sport is well-served by both of our publications and this collaboration is something that is long overdue. We covered the KSGP in Super Kart Illustrated last year and we?ll do it again this spring. We?ll also be able to bring some EKN coverage to the mix with live updates from the track throughout the weekend.?
In 2006, Howden will be the trackside announcer for the entire Stars of Karting series and will also provide the race call for the Rock Island Grand Prix, SKUSA SuperNationals, assorted IKF Region 7 events and the North American Karting Championships. He is pleased with the chance to add the KartSport Grand Prix to the mix.
?Simply put, I was happy to get the call from Jeff to announce his event and I was even more thrilled to have the weekend free,? Howden added. ?Jeff?s put together a solid group of event personnel and I was honored to have been asked to join this assembly. Besides that, I dig the pro-event approach to this race with its focused class structure and I can?t wait for qualifying to begin on Saturday afternoon. With big bucks on the line, it should be extremely exciting!?
?It?s probably no secret that Rob and I don?t see eye to eye on every issue,? commented Franz from the KartSport offices in Pasadena, CA. ?But we certainly agree that the karting industry needs to show a higher level of internal cooperation if we want our sport to grow. Beyond that, I?m thrilled to have Rob working the race call for the KSGP. We all know he?s the best announcer in karting, and his presence is further proof that the KSGP is dedicated to having a crew that?s comprised of many of the finest, most passionate people in our community.?
The 2006 KSGP will feature a streamlined three-class structure (Pro ICC, TAG Pro and Stock Moto) and a $15,000 cash payout. Event registration is now underway; for more information and the latest updates, check http://www.kartsportgrandprix.com or email [email protected]
