ParticipantThe rumors appear to be true, sadly…..
This is pretty shocking, at least to me. I was unable to race this past season (due to being unemployed), so I was excited to get back in the mix next year. ‘Plans are in process’ for next year, but what does that mean? I sure hope TTAC continues on in another form or guise, because i know that i’m not the only one who’s gutted by this ‘news’!
What the heck is going on? :anyone

ParticipantI also keep seeing vague platitudes of ‘racing will continue’ or ‘plans for next year’ but…what does that mean? Is TheTrack moving? or new owners?

ParticipantI heard the rumor that Kirk Deason will be promoting a 30 race series with a $30,000.00 to win in a 350# 100cc super stock direct drive class. The race dates are secret but will be at night with out lights in order to save on track rental fees. He is still working on the $100,000.00 announcer contract fee with Tony and could use some large donations of food and drinks to clinch the deal.
Get your tin foil hat on and stay tuned. :hypno

ParticipantRodney, you are WAY off base! it’s 300k to win, not 30, the 100cc class will be aircooled reed or rotary, no watercooling, and the min weight will be 335. Everything else is correct. Tony’s people haven’t gotten back to me about his contract provisions requiring blue m&m’s and a prom dress in XL.

ParticipantWell I am glad to see I was sort of right, I will prepare for another great season of racing go karts next year.

ParticipantAccording to the Centennial airports website, the jet center has the first right of refusal on the property at the end of the track lease. Centennial airport has a very informative website.
http://www.centennialairport.com/index.php/en/about/board-agenda-and-minutes/9-uncategorised/178-2015-dec-board-packet-4They have a meeting at 3 PM on the 10th and the track looks to be on the agenda.

ParticipantHere is what Gwen C. Balk, Director – Administration wrote:
Dear Mr. Kosman:
The JHK Marketing, Inc. matter was an advisory report which the Airport Board accepted as part of their Consent Agenda approval.
I imagine that you are interested in the section of the Staff Report that deals with correspondence labeled Exhibit C which details notices to Denver jetCenter (DJC) who had certain rights concerning the JHK leased property if said property should become available. FYI, Staff will be preparing an amendment to the Denver jetCenter lease to add the property and it will be presented at the January 14, 2016 meeting of the Board for its consideration for approval.
If there is anything else concerning this matter that you need answered, please feel free to contact me.

ParticipantWho knows, maybe some karter/person/company has been quietly working behind the scenes with the Jet Center to sub lease the property and keep the track open. No past due obligations to clear up and no blue sky to pay for.
It’s karting, stranger things have happened.
If this is the case, all I can say is Well Played.
I guess we will know in a month or so.

ParticipantFingers crossed, Cris. That would be great!
What’s plan B? Kickstarter? Crowd-funded go kart track? Country Club-style? Anyone hit the lottery recently?

ParticipantFunny, I was thinking a crowd funded kart track too! I’m just thinking I’ll be putting a lot of miles on my pickup this summer driving to GJ to race.

ParticipantThe Airport has been accepting proposals for sub-leasing the Track property. It sounds like they have more than one.
December 18, 2015 at 5:53 pm #67468Cris Schureman
ParticipantI dug around the airport information and called a guy who knows what is going on. He is directly involved in this.
What I learned as fact:
The Jet Center is leasing the property. This will probably be approved by the board next month.
The airport wants the kart track there, thinks it is an asset and has a lot of potential. They do not want it to be operated as it has been the past 10 years. The Jet Center is on board with sub-leasing.In order for the Jet Center to Sub lease the property the airport must approve the plans. The airport put out a notice requesting proposals to anyone interested in taking over the track. There were 4 parties who responded initially. Due to the improvements required (water, sewer, electricity, pavement and actual REAL buildings) 2 of the 4 dropped out. They are reviewing the 2 remaining proposals right now. Both remaining bidders are involved in karting and are well financed. Doing this kind of thing is not foreign to either bidder.
My opinion:
One of them has the thing in the bag (and has for some time) which would make this bid review process more of a formality. Like I said before, this kind of thing does not happen overnight. This has been in the works for several months or longer. If my hypothesis is correct, the strategy, patience and timing of moves were brilliant. If I am correct, the track will continue to operate and be substantially improved. With improvements and new owners this could lead to the return of a real regional series and the hosting of national events.
