ParticipantWhat type of brakes do you have and what is the problem you are experiencing with them, such as is all the air out of the system etc. As far as getting the tire on the rim. I usually place the tire on the floor them push the shallow side of the wheel(Usually the side opposite the valve stem). It might take quite a bit of force and turning the wheel as you put it on helps.. If you have any other questions throw them out here and someone should be able to help.

InactiveWell i took care of the tire but i tried bleeding the brakes front and back and got the front kinda stop the tires but the back i cant seem to get the brake to even move to stop the tires and brakes are in the pics not sure what it is SKM? Also the pic with the tubes that have holes in them i dont understand why they are like that, they could of got hot but not sure. They are hookws to the carb on one side then goes arcoss to the other side.

ParticipantFranco:
From the photos, the kart needs some TLC. First off, I’d get some brake cleaner and spray it inside of the calipers. It looks to me like the brakes have some build-up and if you haven’t been out they could just need to be “freed up”. Lots of rust on the rear axle/brake rotor so I’m guessing it’s just bound-up inside. If you are comfortable, I’d take the entire rear end apart and clean it very well. Start w/ a Scotch Brite Pad on the axle and end w/ some 0000 Steel Wool. WD 40 is great but be careful not to get any on the rotor or the pads. Speaking of the rotor, it is pretty glazed up…get some emery cloth and clean the rotor very well. Basically, scrub it down to a ‘silvery’ color; fronts as well.
The hoses…you need to replace them. I’m guessing they hit the exhaust pipe or something?
You’re not too far from IMI and I might also suggest taking the kart there for general maintenance and a good once-over.
Good luck!

Actually, no. Those hoses are vent hoses, they are supposed to have holes in them. You’ll see something of that sort on all Keihin and Dellorto carbs.
As for the brakes, I can’t really say without seeing them in person, but my recommendation would be to drain all the fluid and clean everything as Troy suggests. Then fill with new fluid and try bleeding them. If you’re still having issues, chances are the seals in the calipers and/or master cylinders need to be replaced. SKM brakes (SKM is the brand name of one of the larger Italian component and chassis manufacturers, by the way) are standard stuff; IMI may have the rebuild kits in stock, or we can definitely order them in.

ParticipantThanks for the clarification Jeff!!!!
Trying to help out…wasn’t sure about the hoses and should have kept my mouth shut on that one!!! 😳
Didn’t mean to not include you guys, just trying to be sensitive to the fact Franco lives in Ft. Collins…heck, you know I have an open CC w/ Shockwave! 😀
Franco:
By all means, the Shockwave guys (Doug, Jeff & Greg…and mom Jill, too!) are all fantastic and IMMENSELY knowledgeable…they, too, are more than qualified to help you out and would be worth the drive down to Arvada!!!
If you are a karting newbie, I would definitely recommend a strong ‘once-over’ for the kart before you go out by a shop owner and I can wholeheartedly recommend Shockwave ~ they help me regularly. The other shops in the area are fantastic as well; Kartworks (north), IMI (north) and Billet (Parker).
Going fast is fun, going fast safely is even more fun!

ParticipantNo worries Troy. IMI and Kartworks are definitely closer for a Ft. Fun resident.

InactiveThanks for the info guys and i got the front brakes to work good but the back doesnt grab to tight at all and i started to clean up the back end just need some more supplys and how much does a once over cost? And what about Kartworks in Loveland?

ParticipantFranco, we charge $45 an hour for labor. Generally just going over a kart and checking it out would take about an hour – and then if we’re fixing anything, it will obviously take longer. I do not know if Kartworks does service work, or just retail sales, but you could certainly call and ask them.
