ParticipantThe same rules apply in our everyday life.
Try to keep it in mind, if you use the guy in front of you as a brake the most you can gain is being in front of that guy that has a good understanding of what is allowable of your normal operation.April 2, 2007 at 7:32 pm #57375Rick Schmidt
ParticipantIf you bump draft him so hard his helmet comes off. It’s too much! 😉

ParticipantI saw some serious bumping going on I don’t think anyone was out for the other… All I can say is there were some really good races this weekend.. It is always fun to see two or three karts wide at the end of the stright. Some of those tag guys have lost there marbles or should I say have big ones…… :loony:

ParticipantLuckily my helmet didn’t come off, but my rear bumper was bent in about 1.5″.

ParticipantRubbin’s Racin’, go run a national event, and the contact we have here is child’s play.

ParticipantThere was some awesome racing yesterday! Incidental contact is part of the deal. However, there were a few guys over the top with aggressive driving. Hopefully, that will be addressed early in the season.
In terms of racing at the big events there is a lot of contact because you have so many drivers who run at a similar speed. However, we completed in the entire Florida Winter Tour last year with big fields and I don?t recall seeing a single race that didn?t have at least one DQ or position penalty for aggressive driving. They can?t catch it all but they are serious about trying to do so. They have a simple rule I?ve seen enforced several times ? If you make contact with someone (inadvertent or not) and it results in that person being out of the race then you automatically finish behind that person. That might make a person think twice. Nah, probably not. :loony:

ParticipantI agree with Larry. I have been to many a national race and yes the racing is aggressive. However, if you punt a guy to pass him, the race finishes with a black/checker and the punter finishes behind the puntie. At some big deal races where the drivers are very aggressive, I’ve seen almost every checker with a black flag. They actually watch the races. I have NEVER seen a black/checker finish at a race in Colorado (except the PMT in GJ) and I have never seen a driver punished for aggressive driving. At least 3 or 4 should have been this past weekend.

X2, you should see my parts bill from SuperNats last year, and none of my races finished with a black/checker…
Contact is part of racing, just as missing teeth is a part of hockey.
Sorry to be so blunt but you can’t race at these high speeds and in such close vicinity without expecting some rubbing. Blatent punting is one thing, but if you’re worried about tire marks on your pods, nothing’s going to change.April 2, 2007 at 11:42 pm #57384Curt Kistler
ParticipantSome days are better than others for rough driving out there. Ben and T are spot on with their comments also. Ask Roman or Kyle what driving in Monaco is like.
Bottom line to yesterday from what I saw was: Ian and his staff of corner workers were looking at everything. If they did not see any rough driving then that is the norm, or allowable level of bumping. When it gets out of hand, those corner workers will be on you and Ian will have words with the perp. Those corner guys rocked yesterday and the Blue was flying.
You can always purchase an on-board camera if you think things are getting too out-of-hand to review with the race director also.
Just another opinion.

ParticipantRubbing is racing and bump drafting is something that happens especially on long straights when the racing is tight. However, punting a fellow competitor into the dirt or running over his back and taking out the competition is beyond just agressive driving. It should not be tollerated period, particulary in karting, at any level!!!!
If the officals do not manage it, the nice guy who gets punted could take matters into his own hands, NOT GOOD!

InactiveBumping is awesome 😯 To be honest I’ve had a lot of help from people bumping me. That’s the only way to do a start correctly in a centrifigual clutch or direct drive kart. I believe that its okay too to give someone a little bump on the exit of a turn to help them out a little. It becomes too much when they start helping you on entry though. :bs:
I honestly don’t see any point in pushing someone all the way down the straightaway unless they’re blocking. :idn:
Love taps are okay to let someone know you’re there. 😮
If you can’t handle being bumped then slow down and let them go by. If you feel that they’re bumping you too hard or they’re pushing you off your line then let them by and punt them.

Inactivehaha cody has an interesting approach… but it is true.
back to about what half of everyone was saying here, it happens and there isn’t anything that says it can’t….
supernats is probably the best analogy because it seems like the most likely that a not normally national driver might participate in. if you are in there with some of those guys, they may wait 2-3 turns before they wanna be past you… expect to know how the tec-pro’s taste if you can’t handle it.
i found out the hard way in 80’s and adapted to it and it helps for the future, just know how to do it in moderation, just like anything else

ParticipantAgree with Doug and T.
This is Open Wheel racing, not SmashCar !
With open wheel the risk is too high for playing like a SmashCar bozo.
If you nerf someone out you finish behind them, or last. Go to a demo derby if you want, but that is not racing or skill it is just using a shortage of brain cells.
Inadvertant scrapes will happen and with tight racing a few incidental bumps will occur, but anything intentional is just someone with more testosterone than brains, and small amounts of both.
