ParticipantYes, MiniMax will run to full spec per Rotax grands. That includes spec gear and chest protectors. For the first race, we will not be overly harsh on items that are not preformance related such as decal placment. However, all racers are strongly encouracged to get and read the Rotax rules, procedures and primer as posted on the RMax web site.
All registered racers will be getting their license packages soon. Most were sent out via bulk mail a week ago and should start ariving next week.

ParticipantSo, the MiniMax that I am bringing up next weekend should bring his complete selection of 13/82 gears?

ParticipantSpec Gear Mini Max Class: At events under the control of local or regional series directors, local officials will have the option of choosing a spec gear for their respective tracks. The recognized spec gear nationally is 13×82 with a local option of 12×76 (new for 2007). The official National Spec Gear will remain 13×82 and this is the gear that will be assigned for the 2007 CCRKC Grand National.
Note the local option? (12×76)?

ParticipantI think Doug will respond on this one, too, but we were told by him that the 13 x 82 will be the spec gear for the qualifiers as well as the Grands. That is what we have on Cole’s kart now, and it is going to work just fine.

ParticipantI’m going to jump in here and point out that the gearing difference is .026.
13/82 = 6.308
12/76= 6.333It appears to me the difference is inconsequential, however the size of the rear sprocket would be noticeably smaller in size.
However, why mess with the specs if that’s what your going to be doing come August… 8)

ParticipantExcellent!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just what I needed to Know!!
This is the reason why we are in Mini Max! No surprises………
A class that we can grow with and the playing field that is equal – Karts and engine package that is >>>>>>>>> 😀Hey since I’m here, what’s a good base line for jetting? Hahahaha!!!!
( max Mini Max RPM ? under load )Thanks for this response !

ParticipantAngie is correct. We intend to run to the same specs that the Grands will run and that is the 13/82 ratio. The main reason the 13/82 version is speced is that most Rotax engines come with a 13 tooth sprocket stock. This way the parent doesn’t need to go purchase a sprocket.
More on race day procedures will be posted once we finalize them. Nationally, jet size is a minimum of 155 and that will be the spec here.

ParticipantDoug,
Where can I find the rule on the jet? Using the MaxJet last weekend at The Track, it called for a 142 in the neutral position. Maybe they need to take into account the altitude we are at? Also, the jetting for the Mini Max is different from the Sr motors, is this rule specifically for the Minis? Thanks,

InactiveDoug told me he was working on getting the jetting situation changed for the minis to compensate for our altitude and hopefully he will get this resolved, but hey if not then we are all stuck with 155. It is my understanding the reason we have fixed gear and probably fix jetting is because the minis go too fast. :idn:
Personally, I like the challenge of tuning, but this class for good or bad puts almost everything on the kid driving the kart.

ParticipantDon,
Don’t get me wrong. I don’t have a problem with the spec gear, or even a minimum size jet. I just didn’t read that in the rules, and with our first qualifier only a week away, I wonder how far in advance we are notified of these things. You seem to have known, so probably have been practicing accordingly. We just found out about this when Doug posted on Thursday. From what I understand in the rules, it is up to the promoter if they want to set a minimum jet for our qualifiers.Doug,
I realize you are working on this, but can we at least know if this will apply to the race next weekend? Thanks!

On the spec gear, yes, we will be running the 13/82 combination as per the spec gear for the grands. In the past, a 155 was the minimum jet size. At our elevation, we may need to go smaller but Rotax has a warranty concerns if we go too small. Once I get a firm answer, I will let everyone know ASAP.
