Inactiveso ovals are really what you want to do? from personal experience ( i used to race ovals) and it was so badly organized, things were NEVER on time because so many people crashed, and it is about 10% driver skill. When we went to karting it was much more of a challenge, much more FUN, and people know how to drive with their heads and not their wallets. By the way, money buys you everything running ovals… It may seem not to your liking right now, but I have found that karting is the best form of racing, especially for kids, and colorado is one of the best places to do it! We have many national level racers to challenge you. Just so you know…

ParticipantWelcome to Racing… all forms of racing have politics not just karting.

ParticipantSteve,
I am glad that you found something for you and your kids to enjoy together, and I hope it all works out. I wouldn?t be bashing the karters too bad, as it looks like you will be sharing track time with them at IMI on club race dates (Not on CSC dates, though- per Brad, even though I see the calendar on the mini cup site still shows those dates as races).Racers get worked up this time of year, probably not just karters. Everyone is anxious to get back to racing, and the ?silly season? keeps everyone occupied in the meantime. It would probably be worse here on the forum, if the weather wasn?t being so cooperative this winter ? allowing some test and tune time!
By the way, how old are your kid(s)?
good luck to you, and remember to have fun!

ParticipantAttitude = Altitude
Racing = politics (we even have little league dads too!)
You should always observe first hand versus watching from the sidelines of the internet
Kyle, I couldn’t have said it any betterThe Door’s that way, don’t let it hit you on the way out…

ParticipantGood Luck, have fun and don’t be burning your bridges behind ya.
A lack of experience always makes the job cheaper and easier to do.
See ya at the races. 😉

InactiveHey Steve,
Easy there bud. Sounds like you are new to racing so let me provide you with some additional info about Mini Cup racing and racing in Colorado in general. Your enthusiasm is admirable but flaming karters is not going to make you any friends here. I am part of that ?group here on the front range? and the web site administrator for http://www.nationalminicup.com, I am also a kid kart parent and Mini Cup owner and we will run both this year as well as a TAG kart. National Mini Cup does not promote the us vs them line of thought that could be easily read into your post. If you havent already, please visit the National Mini Cup web site. I think that you will be surprised to see that the site is not just about Mini Cup cars but also includes information about the other two major forms of 4 wheeled motorsports for 5 ? 16 year olds, Karts and Quarter Midgets. Of course we hope that you will choose to race Mini Cup?s but if you don?t we hope that your family will in some way be involved with Colorado motorsports.Comments on the replies before mine.
What Swhannum said in a previous reply is exactly right and what you see on this site in the ?fighting? you mentioned is a bunch of people that have a real passion for racing. Please do some more research and understand the issues.
Chris,
The money issues you mentioned about oval track racing are exactly the things that National Mini Cup is trying to remove. There is only one motor allowed, the Honda 4 stroke GX390. The motor must be sealed and there is one motor builder that is certified to put the seal on. The cost to freshen up a motor and reseal is less than it cost to blueprint a kid kart motor :loony: . One MMRA (Miniature Motorsports Racing Association) approved chassis manufacturer. We will find out for sure this year but from what I am hearing now is two seasons on a motor and 20 races on tires. Entry fee for the ovals this year, I-25 Speedway, Big Country Speedway, and I-92 Speedway will be under $40.00, the purse structure is still being worked out. The Tri State Schedule (Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska) will include a near even split of road course events at IMI and oval races. It?s going to be pretty exiting, Friday or Saturday under the lights, and then trying to get the car setup for the road course on Sunday.February 2, 2006 at 4:38 pm #52670fastg
ParticipantSteve,
Obviously you are new to racing – you may wish to keep your wallet in your pocket for a while, go to some races, meet some people, ask some questions, and most importantly figure out what your goals are. I have been karting in Colorado for 20 years and have a great deal of fun / satisfaction in the sport. Dont confuse a spirited exchange of ideas for fighting – don’t judge people untill you talk to them face to face.
Regards,
Gary Jacobs

ParticipantAlthough this is a humorous stream, if you want some real insight into the majority of people involved in this sport, read the offers under the “schedule” post from racers opening up their homes to total strangers from outside the area in order to make it possible for them to participate in the series. I thank them and bet that if one looked you could find examples of this kind of support happening throughout this community. People tend to be passionate about thier sport and they just want to make it better. You won’t find any milktoast needlepointers here, (nothing against needlepointers, some of my best friends do needlepoint).

Inactiveyeah… to be perfectly honest i wasn’t 100% sure about the mini cup thing, i was talking from the quarter midget aspect of it. Racing a quarter midget in colorado and wanting to be competitve is a mistake. You have to race nationally and spend more and more and more money on fast motors just to put yourself nowhere. it sounds good to me…
