InactiveHockeysew, for the leopard you can use between a 78 to a 82 gear range for IMI. This will keep you in that prefered RPM range. Usually the RPM change is 200 RPM for a tooth up or down. If you go any lower than a 78 you may have a hard time keeping your speed up thru the turns. Hope this helps.

InactiveI’ve been running an 11/69……only turning about 13.8k in the straights, so I know i’m giving up a few tenths easily to that (best i could do sunday was a 55.7) That said, i think an 11/72 would be great. About 14.5.k in the straights, but not redlining so the motor will last longer.

InactiveWhat should the gearing be for a rotax?
September 29, 2004 at 9:24 pm #48441Anonymous
InactiveHmm. I think your max rpm is about 12.5 (correct me if wrong rotax guys). I think you’d want to hit that just as you’re almost ready to late-brake the turn in the main straight, and just make sure its always in its sweet spot. ( I was able to drive a buddies birel rotax setup…and man, it ALWAYS seemed like it was there at IMI.)

We’ve asked that question before on this forum. Check the index. But since I am a Rotax pilot (the most powerful engine in the world and would blow your head clean off if it wasn’t for the neck donut, you have to ask yourself…) and I like you I will tell you to start with a 12/74 to a 12/77 setup and take it from there.
Rich, I am buying the first Root Beer for Scott you can buy him some candy. This is a dollar I am really looking forward to spending!
I am there Saturday…

InactiveScott,
I have run between 13/77 and 13/80 with good results. Keep in mind that Mike is running in the masters class at a higher weight. In a lower weight class you can get away with a lower final ratio.

A figment of everybodys imagination.

ParticipantScott.
If you brought money to give to Brad I’d call it a hunch that he’ll let you practice. However, he might want your autorgraph for his book…

And my hunches are usually right.
Like the hunch that Dennis wouldn’t show his face to defend his #1 plate…September 30, 2004 at 9:16 pm #48448Anonymous
