ParticipantDavid,
I have two brand new old stock 2014 birel C28 cadets in a box in my shop. I don’t know what your budget is, but each chassis is priced at $1750.
This is probably not much more than a used one would cost you and these chassis are brand new.

ParticipantHey JDavis,
We actually announced the Sr. LO206 back in November on an Ekartingnews.com Top Story, on our own Facebook page, and also on our own website. EKN also sends out all of our stories on their PR wire, which gets sent to Kart360, Motorsport.com and Vroom, among several other websites.
Press is a funny business, I actually don’t know any other karting outlets that we could have sent information to, and still folks tell me that they never got info on this topic and others.
Aside from Super Bowl commercials and sky writing with bi-planes, I think we pretty much cover most places that we can.
But,
Why wait until next year?
LO206 is a non-championship class. These are all one off races with prizes, so don’t feel like you won’t have a chance at the championship, since there isn’t one.
Greg Welch has room in the trailer.
Thanks,
Andy

ParticipantHope is not a proper strategy, Mike.
Support your local tracks and karting businesses.
Happy Karting.

ParticipantOh boy, we woke up the sleeping giant……
One minor point that you may be missing Jeremy, is that the track was not open for open testing those days, unless the teams paid to rent it out. I thought that I made that clear, but apparently it was lost in my elegant post.
There was no $40 option, because the track wasn’t interested in offering it. It was closed to open practice.
The only way that people were able to practice is if the teams stepped up and paid the $5K per day. At $40 per driver, they would have lost about $4K each day. That would have been pretty charitable of them. They found enough drivers willing to pay the fees to make it work.
They did so and simply expected to be reimbursed for their investment. Greedy bastards.
Next, Rotax karts aren’t $20K.
Finally, congratulations on your championship.

ParticipantThe saddest thing about the entire situation is that the teams and ROTAX are being blamed for what happened last week.
I have been in the same spot with MMP, albeit 5 years ago. They plan a club race the weekend prior to the big race, but don’t have open practice on the schedule for the days leading up to it. (BTW, this is no different from the other sanctioning body, the only rules prohibiting practice are for the week of the event).
I rented MMP in 2011 for a day prior to the local race to serve my customers and other out of towners that wanted to attend, so I know the facts about doing business there.
SO, if someone wants to practice Thurs or Friday before the club event, they have to rent the track.
A track like MMP costs about $5K per day to rent. Its owned by a big corporation with a lot of rules and a rental business that makes far more money selling $25 rentals than hosting races. So, $3K track rental, $1K ambulance, $1K for the various workers needed, i.e. signup, grid, flags, corners, retrieval. The true cost may be $4800, or $5200, but I just want folks to understand the economics of it all.
I know that RPG and Koene rented the track. They have about 15 drivers between them. If they happened to get 5 others to join in, they had 20 drivers. So, $5K divided by 20 is????
$250 per driver.
Its pretty simple. Hopefully Common Core math hasn’t eliminated division from the curriculum.
The fact that some sit on their keyboards and blame teams for serving their customers as best they can, or an engine manufacturer for things that are beyond their control is pretty sad.
Take a breath, have a taco and go race at the level that you want to race, but there is no reason to throw crap on those that want to participate at a different level than you do.

ParticipantRichard,
I am starting an LO206 program at my SoCal series and I have spec’ed used MOJO D2 tires for LO206.
The reason for this is that we all (FTK, Nash, 2Wild, and all of our customers.) have piles of used MOJO D2s sitting in our shops or garages gathering dust. I sell these sets of tires for $60-80 (depending on wear) all day long. I have put 4 days on my shop LO206 karts and have very little wear on the tires, but they still provide decent grip for this type of package. In testing, I found that the cheapy Chinese tires, (Duro, Sakamoto…) all make the karts feel too “fun kart-ish”. This should be a step up from K1, Unser, etc. With the used MOJO D2, we achieve this goal.

ParticipantYou guys sure are talking about us a lot……
In my opinion, there are 10 things that make a great series.
1. Competitors
2. Fun
3. Fair and consistent officiating.
4. Competitors
5. Fun.
6. Great tracks.
7. Competitors.
8. Fun.
9. Something to shoot for.
10. Competitors. You guys have it all, you just need to develop a plan and work that plan.
You keep bringing up my series, but I have it easier than you guys. GATORZ is my deal. I am a benevolent dictator and I am the only one. You have 3-4 track owners that all have a say in the deal. That is a much bigger challenge.
Here is my take on what you need. Take it or leave it, its just the opinion of one guy that has been around the block a few times, just not every time.
1. You need to have the same Race Director and Tech Director. Fair and consistent officiating is on my list. Nobody likes to go to a track and feel like they got “homer’ed”. Even if it doesn’t happen, someone will always feel like they got the shaft because they were on the wrong chassis, or the wrong shop, etc. I hire enough staff so I do not have a duty on race day. I have a radio, but I do not make decisions. I break ties. You have Angie as your Scoring Director, I believe, with her and the other two permanent staff members, you can run a race day with different people at each track. The 3 of them are in charge at every race. If the track owners feel that it is cost prohibitive, raise entry fees by $10. People are happy to pay a little more to get a better value. Fair and consistent officiating is a much better value.
2. You need to make up a committee that decides the path of the series. If you have 4 tracks, use the owners as the basis for the committee. If 3 only want to be involved, then make it 3. If Rotax is in the series, include Doug. Make Angie the secretary if she wants the job and pay her for it. She can have a vote or not, its up to you. Have the drivers pick one guy as the “drivers rep”. There is no perfect person, but someone like Charles Gordon comes to mind. Sorry, he is just someone I know. If he doesn’t want to do it, have the drivers pick someone they trust to present their issues. The committee needs to have 5-7 people, an odd number so there can be no ties on things. Their vote is binding, no drivers boycotts, strikes or track lockouts can happen if the vote doesn’t go a certain way.
3. You need to remember that we all spend our hard earned money to go have fun. When we stop having fun, we stop doing it. Make sure that it is fun most of the time. Racing isn’t fun all the time, but the ratio has to be the right way at the end of the day.
4. As I said before, people will always pay a little more for a better value. I charge a little more for entries, etc. but I hand out good prizes. Ask the drivers if they would rather pay $X and race for trophies or pay $X+$20 and have better officiating and some good prizes.
5. Schedule your Grand Junction round so it doesn’t conflict with a GATORZ or PKC race and I’ll bring half a dozen people.
6. If you do #5 and we come up, you had better come down and race a GATORZ race or two, Ian and I came up there 3 times this year!
If I got it all wrong, I’m sorry. I’m just trying to help because I love our sport.

ParticipantYeah, I was trying a bit too hard.
I had someone do splits on me vs. Paul and John.
I was faster than them by two tenths in the driving sections, from turn one, through the entrance to the chicane. BUT, I lost 4 tenths to them from the exit of the chicane to the entrance to turn one. Most of is was in the last turn, the big sweeper.
I was trying a bit too hard to find that four tenths and piled it up.
I am recovering, but I sneezed about 20 minutes ago and almost started crying.
