Vega red’s (they’re crap btw) was the spec tire for Rotax Sr a few years back, they have a stiffer sidewall than the YHC’s. The fronts are very sensitive to your setup; I’ve burned through a set in 30 IMI laps once.
I found the fronts like a degree or two of positive camber on the front (static setting, w/o driver in the kart), about 12 pounds of pressure all around and a wide front track setup. The rear’s last forever, it’s the front tires you’ll have problems with, and they seem to last longer at Bandimere vs. IMI.
You hit the nail right on the head.
The sidewalls are SUPER stiff. They are a huge pain to mount on wheels compared to the YHC’s (which are a breeze).
As far as tire wear, the front tires are completely gone after sunday’s race (can barely see the wear dimples). This was only with one of the two practice sessions, half of qualifying, heat race and 2 laps of the Main. The rears have about normal wear on them.
I think you are right on the camber settings as well, after looking at the tire wear characteristics on the front.
Glad I paid $60 for them on ebay. If I paid full price, I’d be pissed they only last one day. 🙄
